WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Girls Track Team (2-1) earned its second win of the season, defeating Watertown (55 to 31) last Tuesday, January 3 at Boston University.
“We used this meet to test some versatility and allowed some to try new events,” explained Head Coach Brian Schell. “It was good to see the girls work hard in new events and excel.”
Schell, specifically, pointed to Tori Sheehan (55m dash) and Emma Garrity (600m) for both finishing first in new events.
He also praised Alyssa Bernazani and Lexi Luna for their outstanding performances.
“Alyssa Bernazani qualified for states in the mile with a time of 5:33,” said Schell. “She continues to be a powerful runner and it showed not only running another personal record, but also her best tactical race yet.”
“Lexa Luna won the 300m after stepping up from the 55m dash. Her time of 40.55 was good enough to qualify for states, break her own school record, and even qualify for the New Balance Emerging Elites,” said Schell. “I am happy for her as she is a hard-working individual.”
