Kevin Welch Named Wilmington Middle School Interim Principal

WILMINGTON, MA — Interim Superintendent Joanne Benton named Kevin Welch the Interim Principal of the Wilmington Middle School on Thursday.

Welch, a 15-year veteran teacher at Wilmington Middle School, takes over for Amy Gerade, who stepped down in November due to health reasons. Gerade served in the position for just 17 months.

Welch had been teaching technology at the middle school since 2001 and received his principal license in 2013.  After school and on the weekends, Welch had also been serving as the Wilmington High School’s Athletic Department’s Facility Manager since 2003.  In addition, he coached the WHS Girls Tennis Team from 2003 to 2013.

Benton sent the following announcement to parents last week:

Dear Members of the Middle School Community,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Kevin Welch as the Interim Principal of Wilmington Middle School effective January 3, 2017. Mr. Welch has been a valued member of the faculty at the middle school since 2001. He has sat on a number of committees including the School Advisory Council and the Instructional Support Team. Mr. Welch earned his principal licensure in 2013 through the Merrimack Leadership Academy.

Mr. Welch is a dynamic administrator whose passion for education is readily apparent. He is an individual who is strong of character, with an outstanding work ethic. As an educational leader, Mr. Welch will work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents for the remainder of the school year. Please join me in welcoming him to this new position.
