WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team (1-0) won its season opener on Friday night, defeating Woburn — 67-54 — at Woburn High. The Wildcats not only matched last year’s win total from its 1-19 season, but it defeated Woburn for the first time since joining the Middlesex League six years ago.
Senior tri-captain Joe Gaudreau led the way with 29 points and 7 rebounds. Senior tri-captain Cam Walsh contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds to the win. Junior Dan Garcia netted 11 points and 4 assists. Zack Richards shut down Woburn’s best offensive player in the second half.
The Wildcats will try to improve to 2-0 against Lexington this coming Tuesday, December 20 at 6pm at Lexington High.
