WHS Junior Zoe Marzi Awarded CASIT Scholarship

WILMINGTON, MA — In late September, the President of C.A.S.IT (Centro Attivia Scholastiche Italiane), an organization that supports Italian teachers, students and classrooms, reached out to Wilmington High School to recognize its new Italian program at a special ceremony.

The kickoff to “Italian Heritage Month” was held on Friday, September 30 at the Massachusetts State House. Lt. Governor Karyn Polito started the ceremony by speaking about her Italian heritage and family values, before reading the proclamation proclaiming October as a month-long celebration of Italian heritage.

At the ceremony, WHS Junior Zoe Marzi, was recognized for her hard work, dedication, and interest in the Italian language and culture. Wilmington’s World Languages Curriculum Team Leader Carlos-Louis Brown was also in attendance to accept a generous check from CASIT to benefit Wilmington’s Italian program.

“As a World Language Department, we are very proud to see the hard work of our students and staff representing the Wilmington Italian program at this event,” added Brown.

Marzi and Brown were joined by Wilmington Middle School teacher Katia DeStefano, Wilmington Selectman and Sons of Italy member Kevin Caira, and Italian Consulate General Nicola DeSantis.
