REVERE, MA — Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, December 18th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere, for Stephen T. “Steve” Paone, who died following a lengthy battle with metastatic cancer on Tuesday, December 13th, at Care One at Wilmington. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, December 19th at 9:30a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) REVERE at 10:30 a.m.
Born in Everett, he was raised & educated in Revere, graduated from Immaculate Conception Grammar School in 1963 and was a 1967 alumnus of St. Domenic Savio High School of East Boston. He continued his education majoring in social work, at Boston College & received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1971. Later he returned to university at Boston University where he was awarded a Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1977.
After working for several years, in social work, he entered the Marist Missionary Brothers and Fathers serving in the most remote areas in South & Latin America. A life-threatening illness, abruptly ended his work there & he returned to recuperate in Boston. He had a 5 year career at Walter Fernald School as a counselor & assistant case manager. He worked for nine years for the Eliot Community Services as a coordinator within the Lawrence Division. His recent bout with metastatic disease demanded his resignation from Eliot.
From his youth as a C.C.D. Teacher in his home parish of Immaculate Conception, Steve had a definite draw to the religious life and beyond that, giving and doing for others, especially the downtrodden and disenfranchised. Always active in parish ministries, Steve was a member of the Men’s Group at St. Thomas of Villanova – St. Dorothy Parishes, where he had many faithful and close friends. Stephen came to live in Wilmington, about ten years ago.
He was the beloved son of the late Charles P. “Chick” Paone & Lorraine A. (Godfrey) Paone. He is the cherished brother to Charles P. “Chuck” Paone, Jr. & his wife, Lani of Windham, N.H. & Therese P. Cox & her husband, Terrence G. Cox of Lynnfield. He is the devoted uncle to Charles P. “Chip” Paone, III and his fiancee Christine Michelson, Jonathan T. Paone & his wife, Sarah & Stephanie M. Paone, all of NH & his godson & nephew, Trevor T. Cox of Lynnfield. He is also lovingly survived by 4 grand-nephews, John-Henry, Justin, Jake, & Jason and 3 grand-nieces, Jenna, Hailey & Katie. Many faithful and dedicated cousins also survive Steve.
Interment will be held privately at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
