Wilmington Midget 1 Team Is Runner-Up At MA Hockey State Championships

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Midget 1 Team recently competed in the Massachusetts Hockey State Championships in Bourne, MA.

After a 1-0 over Lynn in their 1stgame, they played Needham.  The Wildcats fell behind quickly, 4-0.  But their commitment never wavered and they fought back with two goals in the 2nd period from Moe Ducharme and Tom Worob, and two more in the third from Ducharme and Ryan Barrett to tie the game.  Defenseman Jarred Aucoin led a big rush up the ice, including a huge hit on a Needham player, that enabled Barrett to tie the game.  Robbie Farrell backstopped the Wildcats through OT and a shootout, where goals by Barrett and A.J. McKearney completed the win!

In Game 3, goals by Aucoin (from David Silveira), Worob (from Joe Mirabella), and Barrett (from Bobby Lord) helped the Wildcats defeat Tri-County, 3-1, moving them into the semi-finals against Nashoba.  After falling behind early again, 1-0, the Wildcats came back strong in the 2^nd period on a goal by Silveira, with assists to his line mates, Chris Spinazola and Nate DiMeco.  Andrew Sullivan gave the Cats the lead with an assist to Barrett, before Aucoin received a pass from Mike Fiorenza and put it away with a bomb from the point that rang the iron.

In the Finals, the Wildcats took on Valley League rival, Charlestown (a team they had defeated, 4-3, during the regular season).  Charlestown jumped out quick to a 1-0, before goals by Spinazola (assisted by Silveira) and Lord (from DiMeco) put the Wildcats up 2-1.  Charlestown tied it shortly thereafter, and then scored again with just under 4 minutes remaining in the game to defeat the Wildcats, 3-2, in what turned out to be a fast, close, and very physical contest.
