Wilmington POLICE LOG (Week of November 27, 2016)

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, November 27, 2016.

Sunday, November 27:

  • On a check of Town Hall, police noticed a trash can be the Snack Shack was dumped out. (12:45am)
  • McDonald’s employees called police after there was person in their bathroom for over an hour. Person left before the police arrived. (7:01am)  Police were called back later on after man was found sleeping in the bathroom. Police advised him to leave. (7:45am)
  • A Cheyenne Drive caller reported his mailbox was struck sometime yesterday afternoon. (10:24am)
  • A blue 2008 Nissan Sentra and a blue 1998 BMW were involved in a minor crash at St. Thomas on Middlesex Avenue. (11:12am)
  • A resident at Metro at Wilmington Station reported an odor of marijuana coming from an apartment downstairs. Caller was advised to follow up with the property manager regarding the complaint. (7:24pm)
  • A gray 2013 Mazda and a red 2013 Kia Soul were involved in a crash at Middlesex Avenue and Federal Street.  No injuries noted. Both vehicles were towed. One driver was cited for a red light violation. (9:11pm)

Monday, November 28:

  • A box truck took down wires at Webber Street and Burlington Avenue. Police notified RMLD and Verizon. Fire Department temporarily shut down the travel lane on Burlington Avenue, heading towards the Center. (7:17am)
  • Police received a report of a broken window in the Town Manager’s Administrative Office. Police noted the damage looked malicious. (7:25am)
  • Police conducted a bus evacuation drill at the Woburn Street School. (8:53am)
  • Police were flagged down regarding a past break-in with items missing at Lehigh Northwest Cement Company on Eames Street. (10:09am)
  • A caller stated she received a call stating her husband was being taken hostage, however, she was able to get in touch with him and he was fine. Police advised her it was a scam call. She understood, but was still shook up. Police checked on. She checked OK. (12:52pm)
  • Police checking the train tracks on Middlesex Avenue for possible parties walking on them. Police found one man, who was part of a work crew. Situation checked OK. (1:36pm)
  • A woman in the drive-thru ATM at People’s United Bank on Main Street reported 3 men ran from the bank with hooded sweatshirts up and sunglasses on. One man was carrying a smoking item in his hand. She stated they ran out behind the bank area. Police made contact with the bank, which stated all was well. Police met the caller on site. Police confirmed there was no problem at the bank. Police believe man in question may have simply had a e-cigarette or vaping device. (3:06pm)
  • Police received a request for extra patrols in the area of Nassua Avenue between 5pm and 7pm due to speeding. (5:25pm)
  • A caller reported he believes someone attempted to break into his residence. He chased them down Andover Street. He was able to catch up to him and slap the cell phone out of his hand. Suspect got into a Blue FJ Cruiser and went down Route 125 towards North Andover.  Police responded. No further details provided. (6:25pm)

Tuesday, November 29:

  • Wilmington Police was notified of a road rage incident on Route 129. One driver struck the other in the face. State Police handled the situation. (4:56am)
  • An anonymous caller reported a black 2008 Chevy Impala was parked in the fire lane in front of Game Stop in the Plaza. Vehicle was gone by the time the police arrived. (10:45am)
  • A Drury Lane caller reported her mailbox was knocked over and damaged. It appeared a vehicle struck the mailbox. (2:19pm)
  • A white 2015 Ford F10 and a black 2014 Ford Fusion were involved in a crash at the intersection of Upton Drive and Andover Street. No injuries noted. One vehicle towed. (5:01pm)
  • Police assisted a Market Basket shopper who locked themselves out of their vehicle. (6:49pm)
  • A Shawsheen Avenue resident reported he believes his house may have been robbed within the last three hours. Caller said his mother’s jewelry is missing. A Wilmington detective responded. (8:05pm)

Wednesday, November 30:

  • A Cunningham Street caller reported she believed someone may have tampered with her outside storm window sometime within the past week. (10:47am)
  • Police responded to multiple hold-up alarms at Reading Cooperative Bank on Lowell Street. Incident was a false alarm. (11:42am)
  • Jeffrey P. Sparks (Wilmington, 27) was issued a summons for 3 instances of larceny over $250. (12:55pm)
  • Milestone Group Home reported a juvenile did not return home from school. (5:07pm)
  • A blue 2003 Toyota Corolla and a black 2004 Mercury Marquis were involved in a crash at Lowell Street and Parker Street. (5:56pm)
  • A walk-in party reported a hit and run that occurred sometime between 5:45pm and 9pm in the Market Basket parking lot. (9:47pm)

Thursday, December 1:

  • Police notified Comcast of a low hanging wire on Chestnut Street. (12:32pm)
  • Police received report of a woman panhandling in an unidentified parking lot on Main Street, causing issues for people trying to park. Police responded. Woman was awaiting a bus back to Lowell. (12:55pm)
  • Police transported a student with a sprained ankle from the Middle School to her home. (2:11pm)
  • Police issued a citation to a driver for failure to yield to emergency vehicles in front of the Wilmington Arts Center on Middlesex Avenue. (2:21pm)
  • A gray 2016 Chevy Tahoe and a black 2011 Nissan Sentra were involved in a crash at Butters Row and Main Street. No injuries noted. Both vehicles towed. (5:19pm)
  • A caller reported she lost her platinum engagement ring sometime on November 23. She was shopping at Target in town and also stopped at People’s United Bank on Route 38. (7:46pm)
  • A caller reported his girlfriend called him in a panic after arriving home because her mother’s purse and phone were there and the oven was left on, but she was not home, which is unlike her. While on the phone with his girlfriend, the line was disconnected and he was unable to reestablish contact. Police responded. The mother had arrived back home and the situation checked OK. (8:11pm)

Friday, December 2:

  • Animal Control Officer conducted barn inspections on West Street and Middlesex Avenue. (10:47am)
  • A gray 2005 Dodge Ram Truck struck a parked gray 2008 Toyota Camry in the MBTA Parking Lot on Main Street. Driver and police both left note to the owner to contact the station. (11:58am)
  • A Care One employee called to report that a white cargo van had been parked in their parking lot since Monday. The business does not know who the vehicle belongs to. Vehicle was towed to the police station for processing. (12:09pm)
  • Animal Control Officer received a report of a loose chicken in a resident’s driveway on Loumac Road. Officer was able to retrieve the chicken and return it to its owner. (1:03pm)
  • A Marion Street resident requested traffic enforcement between 6am-7am and 3pm-4pm due to speeding cars in the area. (2:07pm)
  • A white 2011 Toyota Camry and a blue 2004 Honda Accord were involved in a crash at Lowell Street, near 93 South Exit 38 ramp. No injuries noted. Both vehicles towed. (4:00pm)
  • An employee at Advanced Auto Parts on Main Street reported he found a human bone in the parking lot. Police responded. Bone was an animal bone. Situation checked OK. (4:51pm)
  • Police responded to an irate male outside the Registry of Motor Vehicles on Middlesex Avenue. (4:57pm)
  • Police received report of 3 parties leaving without paying at Pacific Grove on Lowell Street. (7:56pm)

Saturday, December 3:

  • Police received report of 2 stolen motorbikes on Chestnut Street. Bikes were started up and driven off property. Police notified Burlington and Woburn Police. (8:42am)
  • A walk-in party located a tan and orange Thruster brand bicycle on his Bridge Lane property and turned it into the station. (10:57am)
  • A caller reported he just left the town dog park due to another person’s pitbull biting his coonhound. Caller stated he is taking his dog home and then to the vet. He was advised a log entry would be made and the Animal Control Officer would follow up next week. Caller got dog owner’s name and dog’s name. (12:45pm)
  • A caller reported two ATVs were being operated in the conservation area on Towpath Drive. ATVs were last seen heading towards Butters Row. Police checked the area and were unable to locate. (12:52pm)
  • A caller reported kids were skating boarding in the tennis courts at the high school. Caller was concerned the new courts would be ruined. Police responded and found no one on the courts, but did speak with a group behind the building and advised them of the no skating boarding signs. (1:19pm)
  • A Gunderson Road caller reported a man came to her backdoor selling steaks. Police located man and advised him of town bylaws regarding door-to-door solicitation. Man agreed to move on from town. (2:33pm)
  • A caller reported she lost control of her Phantom 3 drone with GoPro camera near the Shawsheen School. (4:41pm)
  • A Pilling Road resident reported a party dressed as Santa came to their house looking to talk with children. She was unaware of anyone planning for this. Police checked the area and was unable to locate. (8:06pm)
