OBITUARY: Verna E. (Doherty) Stowell, 80

LUNENBURG, MA — Verna E. (Doherty) Stowell, 80, died Saturday, December 3, in the Keystone Center, Leominster, after a long illness.

Her husband of twelve years, Ross Stowell, died in 1982.

She leaves one son, Thomas Horn of Fitchburg; one daughter, Holly A. Rice, and her husband Paul of Lunenburg; three sisters, Marjorie Thiebeault of Goffstown, NH, Judith Bradley of Reading, MA and Bessie Crogen of Woburn, MA; three grandchildren, Danny Staples of Ware, MA, Samantha Staples of Lunenburg and Alexis Rose of Holden, ME. Verna was one of thirteen children.

Mrs. Stowell was a Nurses Aid for many years at Mass General Hospital and Lowell General Hospital.

She was a 1954 graduate of Wilmington High School and loved Foxwoods, bingo and dancing.

She was born in Winchester, MA on February 7, 1936, a daughter of the late Louis and Mae (Perry) Doherty, and lived in Lunenburg for 5 years after living in Lowell for most of her life.

Funeral services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02470.

The Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 763 Mass Ave., Lunenburg, MA has been entrusted with directing funeral arrangements.
