POLICE LOG for November 28: Caller Mistaken About Bank Robbery; Homeowner Fends Off Burglar

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are NINE highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for Monday, November 28, 2016:

  • A box truck took down wires at Webber Street and Burlington Avenue. Police notified RMLD and Verizon. Fire Department temporarily shut down the travel lane on Burlington Avenue, heading towards the Center. (7:17am)
  • Police received a report of a broken window in the Town Manager’s Administrative Office. Police noted the damage looked malicious. (7:25am)
  • Police conducted a bus evacuation drill at the Woburn Street School. (8:53am)
  • Police were flagged down regarding a past break-in with items missing at Lehigh Northwest Cement Company on Eames Street. (10:09am)
  • A caller stated she received a call stating her husband was being taken hostage, however, she was able to get in touch with him and he was fine. Police advised her it was a scam call. She understood, but was still shook up. Police checked on. She checked OK. (12:52pm)
  • Police checking the train tracks on Middlesex Avenue for possible parties walking on them. Police found one man, who was part of a work crew. Situation checked OK. (1:36pm)
  • A woman in the drive-thru ATM at People’s United Bank on Main Street reported 3 men ran from the bank with hooded sweatshirts up and sunglasses on. One man was carrying a smoking item in his hand. She stated they ran out behind the bank area. Police made contact with the bank, which stated all was well. Police met the caller on site. Police confirmed there was no problem at the bank. Police believe man in question may have simply had a e-cigarette or vaping device. (3:06pm)
  • Police received a request for extra patrols in the area of Nassua Avenue between 5pm and 7pm due to speeding. (5:25pm)
  • A caller reported he believes someone attempted to break into his residence. He chased them down Andover Street. He was able to catch up to him and slap the cell phone out of his hand. Suspect got into a Blue FJ Cruiser and went down Route 125 towards North Andover.  Police responded. No further details provided. (6:25pm)
