BOSTON, MA — The Boy Scouts of America Spirit of Adventure Council hosted the 40th Annual “Salute To Scouting” Gala on Tuesday, October 25 at The Westin Copley Place Boston. The event attracted a crowd of more than 225 business and civic leaders who support Boy Scout youth development programs throughout Greater Boston.
Wilmington Cub Scout Pack 126 was honored for showing the spirit of scouting. Scout Frankie Grieco, of Wilmington, was born with one hand but never let it stop him from engaging in scouting and other activities. In May, Frankie’s friends from Cub Scout Pack 126 built him and other youth in need new prosthetic hands as their robotics project. At the Salute to Scouting, Frankie and the entire pack were recognized for representing the best in Boy Scout values.
The gala also honored Putnam Investments President and CEO Robert Reynolds and Eastern Bank as examples of corporate citizenship and positive community involvement. WCVB TV anchor Randy Price, himself a proud Eagle Scout, served as master of ceremonies.
Reynolds was presented with The Ralph Lowell Distinguished Citizen Award for his dedication to helping others and for taking an active role in the community and working to address its problems. The award is named for the Bostonian banker and philanthropist who founded the WGBH Educational Foundation. The award was presented to Reynolds by Suffolk Construction Chairman and CEO John Fish, who was honored by the Spirit of Adventure Council last year.
“I am proud to be honored by the Boy Scouts who do so much for our communities, especially young people in the inner city,” said Reynolds. “Scouting helps inspire and educate in so many ways. Most importantly, scouting instills deep values of citizenship and respect for one’s self and for others. These values guide young people to lead noble, happy lives.”
The Boy Scouts presented The Second Century Leadership Award to Eastern Bank, which was accepted by Chairman and CEO Richard Holbrook. Eastern Bank was honored as a company that consistently sets the pace for corporate leadership and philanthropic support of the Greater Boston community.
“Eastern Bank is proud to be honored for our unwavering commitment to the communities that we serve,” said Holbrook. “Thank you to the Boy Scouts of America for all that you do to support our youth.”
