VIDEO: Town Clerk Sharon George Explains Early Voting In Wilmington

WILMINGTON, MA — WCTV Executive Director Shaun Neville recently sat down with Town Clerk Sharon George for a brief 5-minute interview on the town’s new early voting procedures for the November 8 Presidential Election.

Some highlights from the video include:

  • The State Legislature passed a bill that enabled early voting last year.  Massachusetts is now one of approximately 37 states that permit early voting.
  • Early voting will take place on the following dates & times: Monday, October 24, 8:30am – 7:00pm; Tuesday, October 25, 8:30am – 4:30pm; Wednesday, October 26, 8:30am – 4:30pm; Thursday, October 27, 8:30am – 4:30pm; Friday, October 28, 8:30am – 4:30pm; Saturday, October 29, 9:00am – 1:00pm; Monday, October 31, 8:30am – 7:00pm; Tuesday, November 1, 8:30am – 4:30pm; Wednesday, November 2, 8:30am – 4:30pm; Thursday, November 3, 8:30am – 4:30pm; Friday, November 4, 8:30am – 4:30pm.
  • All early voting will take place at Town Hall.  All precincts vote at Town Hall for early voting.
  • No ID is necessary.
  • The early voting location will look very similar to regular voting location.
  • Early voters will be given a simple voter affidavit to fill out before receiving their early voting ballot.
  • At the end of every day, at the end of the early voting hours, the ballots will be placed in the Town Clerk’s vault.  Ballots will then be put through the voting machines on November 8.
  • The Secretary of the Commonwealth expects 20% of Massachusetts voters will cast their votes early.
  • George believes the first week will be slower than the second week.  She expects Saturday, October 29 to be particularly busy.  George expects early voters to spread the word to family and friends, which will result in an increase during Week #2.
  • UPDATE: We learned at Monday’s Selectmen Meeting that more than 500 residents participated in early voting on Monday — the first day early voting was available.
