SELECTMEN NEWS: 10 Things That Happened At This Week’s Meeting

WILMINGTON, MA — Here are TEN things that happened at the Wilmington Board of Selectmen Meeting on Monday, October 24.

#1) Wilmington Police Chief Michael Begonis provided a brief in-person update on the police department’s firing range, which is “a couple of steps away” from being operational.  The range, located on Abigail Island in North Wilmington, is coming in under its $130,000 budget and should be completed by mid-November.  Begonis praised the Wilmington DPW and Engineering Department for their cooperation.  “We’re police officers.  We don’t build things,” said Begonis.  “We wouldn’t have been able to realize this project’s success without them being a partner in this process.”

#2) Selectmen received an update from the Wilmington Farmers Market on a successful 6th season.  Each Selectman had kind works for market organizers.  Read a recap of the market’s presentation HERE.

#3) Selectmen granted the request of Veterans Agent Lou Cimaglia to turn the lights on the Town Common green during the month of November in honor of veterans.  Read more about Cimaglia’s request HERE.

#5) Selectman Greg Bendel noted that more than 500 Wilmington residents took advantage of “early voting” on Monday, October 24, the first day it was available.  Selectman Mike McCoy noted he voted right before the Selectmen’s Meeting.  He joked he forgot his reading glasses and hope he voted for the right candidates.

#6) Selectmen appointed Anne-Marie Fiore, the Wilmington Schools’ IT Director, as a member of the town’s Cable TV Advisory Task Force. Fiore replaces the district’s former IT Director, Neal Ellis.  Selectmen also modified the appointment of WCTV Executive Director Shaun Neville to be a non-voting member.
