An Important Message From The Wilmington Environmental Restoration Committee

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is an important message from the Wilmington Environmental Restoration Committee:

New England Transrail Redevelopment of the Olin Chemical Superfund Site (51 Eames St., Wilmington, MA)

IMPORTANT PUBLIC MEETING!
Tuesday, October 25, 2016, 5:30pm-8pm
Wilmington Middle School
25 Carter Lane, Wilmington, MA

The Surface Transportation Board is holding a scoping session for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the redevelopment of the Olin Superfund Site as a railroad transloading facility.

New England Transrail is the entity making the proposal. They plan on moving things like bricks, newspaper, steel, glycols, biofuels, liquid natural gas, vegetable oils, wood chips, sand, and gravel, and transloading them from rail cars directly onto trucks, into holding tanks, or into a warehouse on site for temporary storage.

Hundreds, possibly 700+ truck trips daily! 2 trains each 30-40 cars long every night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. A 24-hour operation?

For more information on this EIS go to: newenglandtransraileis.com

The Olin Superfund site is still being studied to determine the extent of contamination by toxic chemicals – Olin has been dragging its heels in the investigation so there are still many unanswered questions.

The scoping meeting will be held in an open house format for the first half hour followed by a brief presentation. Interested parties will be provided an opportunity for public comment.

This is very important to the community. Please attend!
