WILMINGTON, MA — Here are 6 things you need to know in Wilmington for Sunday, October 23, 2016.
#1) According to the National Weather Service, it will be mostly cloudy in Wilmington, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 56. West wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph.
#2) Families and their furry friends will celebrate the contributions of canine caregivers to cancer patients at Wilmington Relay For Life’s “Bark for Life” at 1pm at Doucette Stadium at John F. Ryan Elementary School. The celebration will include doggie games, dress-up contests, music, and a 1-mile walk. Before the event, participants ask family and friends to support their efforts financially to help the American Cancer Society fight back against cancer. #3) The Cub Scouts Pack 126 of Wilmington is selling pumpkins from 9am to 1pm at the Friendship Lodge (32 Church Street). Cub Scout Popcorn and Jack-O-Lantern-sized pumpkins will be available for purchase.
#4) The Wilmington United Methodist Church (87 Church Street) is holding a pumpkin patch on its front lawn through Monday, October 31. Pumpkins are on sale daily from 11am to 7pm. All proceeds support the church’s Youth Mission Programs.
#5) Join Lyndell’s Bakery (720 Broadway, Ball Square) this weekend — Friday, October 21 to Sunday, October 23 — for its 4th Annual Sean Collier Memorial Fundraiser Weekend. The event raises funds for the Somerville Auxiliary Police’s Sean Collier Memorial Scholarship, which helps Somerville High School seniors pursuing a career in law enforcement. $1 from every sale of the bakery’s custom half moon with Sean’s Somerville PD badge #310 on it will be donated to the Scholarship Fund. The bakery will also have raffles for customers to take a chance on, including sports memorabilia. All raffle proceeds will also be donated to the Scholarship Fund. Free coffee will be served.
#6) The Middlesex Canal Museum and Visitors’ Center (71 Faulkner Street, North Billerica) is open from noon to 4pm. Learn about the canal’s history and its impact on the area, including Wilmington.
