WHS VOLLEYBALL: Wildcats Mix It Up, Fall To Reading

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Volleyball team (5-9) dropped 3 straight sets on the road against Reading on Friday, October 14.

  • Set 1: Wilmington – 10, Reading – 25
  • Set 2: Wilmington – 17, Reading – 25
  • Set 3: Wilmington – 16, Reading  – 25

The Wildcats made a mid-game change in its lineup by moving Christina Woods from hitting opposite the setter to hitting outside, opposite Heather Pozzi.  The Cats also moved from running a 5-1 around Lauren Field to running a 6-2 with Brittany Cimaglia setting opposite Lauren Woods.  The change helped the Wildcats take an early 12-7 lead in Set 2, but Reading was able to take the set on some untimely, unforced Wilmington errors.

“We were encouraged by the difference that this lineup made and decided to go with it again for the third set,” says Head Coach Bruce Shainwald. “Wilmington was able to stay in touch with Reading through the first half of the set.  Reading then pulled steadily ahead.”

Shainwald was pleased with his team’s performance and the improvement it made in serve receive by having Woods and Pozzi receiving serve together.

“This is a very good team that needs to find their self-confidence and trust their ability to play the game at a high level.  I know the can do it.  I’ve seen them do it, and I am looking forward to seeing what they can do when they play with confidence and poise.”
