WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Volleyball team (5-10) dropped 3 straight sets at home against Melrose on Monday, October 17.
- Set 1: Wilmington – 14, Melrose – 25
- Set 2: Wilmington – 9, Melrose – 25
- Set 3: Wilmington – 11, Melrose – 25
The Wildcats showed a lot of fight at the start of Set 1, coming within 1-point of Melrose, 10-9, until Melrose pulled away. Wilmington had trouble mounting an effective offense for in Set 2, struggling with serve receive. Wilmington’s difficulties continued in Set 3. Despite lineup changes, the Wildcats played without the necessary confidence to compete.
“When Wilmington is able to play with confidence and trust in their own abilities and those of their teammates, they can compete effectively,” says Head Coach Bruce Shainwald. “They have developed their ability to perform the physical skills required to compete and to win. We will continue to develop their intellectual skills.”
