LONDONDERRY, NH — Melvin L. Nelson, Jr., 58 of Londonderry, NH, died Wednesday October 12, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mel was born in Everett, MA on May 12, 1958 a son of the late Melvin L. Nelson, Sr. and Gloria (Generazzo) Nelson. He was raised in Stoneham, MA and had resided in Londonderry for the past 27 years. Early on, Mel starting working at his family’s machine shop. Through hard work he elevated himself to the position of quality engineer for Textron Defense Systems in Wilmington, MA. He enjoyed the many years he coached baseball for the Senior Babe Ruth League and the Londonderry Athletic Field Association. In addition to his love of cooking, hunting, fishing and the outdoors, Mel loved to spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Heidi Nelson of Londonderry, his daughter, Lindsey Guerard and her husband Matthew of Deerfield, NH, his son, Eric Nelson and his wife Kayla of Londonderry, his granddaughter, Avery Grace Guerard of Deerfield, his siblings, Dianne DiBella of Lowell, MA, Thomas Nelson of Salem, NH, and Laura Gilson of Stoneham, MA. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and many beloved cousins.
Calling hours will be on Sunday October 16, 2016 from 3 – 7 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00am at St. Mark Church, One South Rd., Londonderry. Burial will follow in Pillsbury Cemetery, Londonderry.
