BURLINGTON, MA — On October 9, Paul Girouard, candidate for State Representative, announced that he has received the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business SAFE Trust PAC.
“Massachusetts’ small businesses and workers need a champion on Beacon Hill that will vote to lower costs and reduce unnecessarily burdensome regulations in the next legislative session. NFIB/MA is pleased to endorse Paul Girouard for State Representative for Bedford, Burlington and Wilmington to support small business and grow jobs in Massachusetts,” said Bill Vernon, State Director of NFIB.
“Most people don’t know that three out of every four new jobs are created by small businesses rather than large companies. Our legislators should be focused on creating a better climate where businesses are encouraged to add employees. The best way to raise wages for everyone is to create competition for employees. Hence, it is essential to encourage more small business development,” said Girouard. “That’s why I am so pleased to have received this endorsement from NFIB.”
On the other hand, the incumbent Kenneth Gordon has earned a rating of only 33 percent from NFIB for his voting record over the past 2 years.
“The small business community is being killed by taxes and regulations. They need certainty for planning purposes. As the next State Representative, I will support the Small Business Bill of Rights,” said Girouard.
NFIB is the nation’s leading small business association with offices in all 50 state capitals. Founded in 1943 as a nonprofit organization, NFIB gives small and independent business owners a voice in shaping the public policy issues that affect their business. NFIB’s network of grassroots activists sends their views directly to state and federal lawmakers through our unique member-only ballot, thus playing a critical role in supporting America’s free enterprise system.
Earlier this summer, Girouard announced his plan of action which includes:
- Reduce the high filing fees for C and S corporations
- Require a cost benefit analysis on new regulations every 5 years instead of every 12 years
- Reducing the sales tax back to 5% to make Massachusetts competitive with other states
- Make the sales tax weekend permanent
- End the inventory tax that puts Massachusetts businesses at a disadvantage
- Oppose the graduated income tax that attacks job creators
Girouard wants to make the Commonwealth more competitive with our neighboring states. He believes one way is to reduce the sales tax back to 5%.
“Let’s keep Massachusetts people shopping at home. We need no further proof than the popularity of the sales tax holiday weekend. People flock to the stores that weekend to avoid our high sales tax,” said Girouard.
