‘Jobs of the Future’ Night Planned at Shawsheen Tech On October 27

BILLERICA, MA — Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Billerica is hosting a forum on the Jobs of Today and Tomorrow and the Future of Work on Thursday, October 27, from 7pm to 9:15pm, at the school located at 100 Cook Street in Billerica.

The forum features a panel of industry and academic experts with deep knowledge of the Massachusetts labor market. The panel includes Barry Bluestone (economist from Northeastern University); Bryn Dews (Workforce Strategist from the MITRE Corporation); Leslie Parady (Workforce Development Manager at MassMEP); and Randall Wilson (Senior Researcher at Jobs for the Future).

“For some of us, finding the right job can be a difficult task. How often have you heard a relative or friend mention that she/he is “looking for a ‘good job’?  Typically, this means someone is looking for a job with a future, one that pays well and is interesting and challenging,” said Timothy Broadrick, Superintendent of Shawsheen Valley Technical High School.

“And if you are a business owner or manager, how often have you said that you are trying to hire people with the skills and aptitude that your business needs to be successful?,” continued Broadrick.  “On any given day, there might be as many as 100,000 open and unfilled jobs and many of these jobs will go unfilled for months. Yet we often still hear someone we know say that they cannot find a good job.”

Shawsheen Tech is hosting the forum in an effort to help area residents close the critical information gap about what area employers are seeking and the job skills required for those jobs.

To help close this gap, the forum is free and open to the public. Area residents can register online to reserve their seats by going to http://www.shawsheeninstitute.org and clicking on the registration link to this event.  Area residents interested in the school’s adult education offerings can learn more by also visiting http://www.shawsheeninstitute.org.
