Wilmington Man Receives $50,000 Scholarship From ‘Two Men And A Truck’

WILMINGTON, MA — On September 27, Two Men and a Truck’s corporate team members gathered to recognize someone who has been living the core values of the brand out of Wilmington. Jason Washburn, of Wilmington, started with Two Men and a Truck five years ago as a driver in St. Louis. Through hard work and dedication, he climbed his way up the ladder to work in multiple roles including customer service representative, operations manager and finally general manager at the Wilmington Two Men and a Truck location.

In 2014, Two Men and a Truck launched Mary Ellen’s Moving People Forward scholarship, a program that provides managers an opportunity to transition into successful franchisees. In this program, candidates complete online classes and live webinars while working closely on management assignments to improve their skills. The winner is surprised with a $50,000 scholarship to go toward opening his or her own franchise.

Jason Washburn was a member of the scholarship program that stood out among the other candidates. On September 27, Randy Shacka, the president of Two Men and a Truck, and Mary Ellen Sheets, the founder of the company, surprised Washburn at the Wilmington franchise location with a check that he would never forget.

“I have told myself from the beginning of the program that no matter the outcome, the experience, the relationships I will build and the knowledge I will gain is extremely valuable,” said Washburn.

Washburn showed a lot of potential with a career path similar to Shacka’s. The president of Two Men and a Truck started with the brand as an intern and worked his way up to the top in his early 30s.

“My best advice to anyone who is looking for a direction to steer their career, or anyone who is having trouble wrapping their head around what they want to do in life, is take an opportunity, no matter how big or small, and give it a chance. Maybe it will work, maybe it won’t, but if you don’t try, you will never know. I took a chance with the opportunities presented to me, I worked really hard, I made a commitment and I couldn’t be happier with where this ride is taking me,” said Washburn.
