TEWKSBURY, MA – Families and their furry friends will celebrate the contributions of canine caregivers to cancer patients at the American Cancer Society Bark For Life event on Sunday, October 23. The Bark for Life will be at Doucette Stadium, John F Ryan Elementary School, starting at 1 PM. The celebration will include doggie games, dress-up contests, music, and a 1-mile walk. Before the event, participants ask family and friends to support their efforts financially to help the American Cancer Society fight back against cancer. The Bark for Life supports Relay for Life.
“The Bark For Life event is an opportunity for people to celebrate the unique care giving qualities of their canines, fight back against cancer with their dogs, and have some fun with their dog,” said Julie Rauseo, Community Manager Relay For Life. This is the second Bark For Life in Tewksbury, and this year it has a Howl-oween theme. Participants are encouraged to come in Halloween costumes (dogs and/or owners) to increase the fun. However, costumes are not required. “We will have activities for children as well,” Rauseo adds.
All dogs who register for the event receive a Bark For Life bandana. Registration is $15 for one dog and $25 for two dogs before the event or $20 per dog at the event. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society save lives by supporting groundbreaking research, education efforts, distributing free information, and critical services for cancer patients.
Last year, more than 20,000 registered canines and caregivers participated in 300 Bark For Life events across the country. They raised $1.2 million.
