WHS GIRLS XC: Wildcats Forced To Forfeit To Melrose With 3 Just Healthy Runners

WILMINGTON, MA – The Wilmington High School Girls Cross Country team (0-3) forfeited to Melrose High on Tuesday, September 27 on the road.

“I chose to run only three girls in the varsity heat and basically forfeit the meet,” explained Wilmington coach Brian Schell. “With low team numbers and already battling injuries, I was not going to take any more chances on an already difficult terrain course.”

“The girls looked well on the course,” continued Schell.  “The hills clearly got to them, and that is what our training is going to be geared towards in developing the strength for them.”

Junior Lailoo Perrillo was 5th overall in 24:20 while still ailing from a hip issue. Senior Captain Anna De La Cruz finished 9th with 25:18 and freshman Samantha Burke took 11th with 25:39.
