WILMINGTON, MA – The Wilmington High School Boys Cross Country team (0-3) was defeated by Melrose High, 19-47, on Tuesday, September 27 on the road.
“The Melrose boys team is ranked first in the Division 2 All State meet,” noted Wilmington coach Brian Schell. “Knowing ahead of time that Melrose was one of the best teams in the state, we used the race as a workout on building a faster 2-mile.”
“Overall, I am pleased with everyone’s efforts,” contuined Schell. “The course was an extremely difficult 3-mile course with tree roots and rocks everywhere. The footing was tough and being able to maintain a good stride is difficult.”
Senior captain Jason Dunn finished 1st for the Wildcats and 3rd overall with a time of 17:55. Sophomore Kevin Elderd finished 2nd for the Wildcats and 6th overall with a time of 18:15.
“Dunn showed he can hang with some of the division’s best,” said Schell. “And Elderd continued to be consistent.”
Other times included: Ben Packer 18:55 (11th), Jesse Valente 19:03 (12th), Vincent De La Cruz 20:10 (15th), Greg Adamek 20:16 (17th), Thomas Goodwin 20:17 (18th), and Brian Elderd 20:33 (19th).
