9 Wilmington Residents To Participate In This Weekend’s Jimmy Fund Walk

WILMINGTON, MA – Nine Wilmington residents will walk up to 26.2 miles along the historic Boston Marathon course this Sunday, September 25 in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai. The walk raises the most money of any single day walk in the nation.

Wilmington participants include Michael Begonis, Theresa Corbett, Lindsay Hydorn, Abygayl Marsh, Brian McQuinn, Dale Niemi, Jeff Piazza, Jean Shibilia and Xiaohong Valente.

They will join 9,000 expected participants in the annual event. This year’s goal is to raise more than $8.3 million. All proceeds go to the Jimmy Fund for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at the nation’s premier cancer center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

“The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai is a wonderful way to take action through meaningful steps with friends and family to reach a unified goal to cure cancer,” said Zack Blackburn, assistant vice president of the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. “The event unites participants with patients and clinicians in a common effort that delivers tangible support for a very effective institution.”

The event has raised more than $100 million in its 28-year history. The Boston Athletic Association has supported the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk since 1989, and Hyundai has been the presenting sponsor since 2002.
