10 Things You Need To Know In Wilmington Today (September 18)

WILMINGTON, MA — Here are 10 things you need to know in Wilmington for Sunday, September 18, 2016.

#1) The Wilmington Farmers Market is open every Sunday, from June 12 to October 9 (minus July 3), from 10am to 1pm, across from the Town Common.  Read this week’s lineup HERE.  Special attractions including a live animal booth with Zoo New England (10am-1pm) and live music with Larry Gilbert (10am-1pm).

#2)  The New England Pet Expo is open from 11am to 4pm at the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road). Admission and parking is FREE. The event includes 110 exhibitor booths featuring various unique pet products, pet clothing and accessories, pet treats and more. In addition, attendees can learn about exotic animals and wildlife conservation as well as local rescue organizations and how they can help save, foster, adopt or care for local animals in need.  Learn more HERE.

#3) The Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks Lodge #2070 has announced they will hold their annual Elks Soccer Shoot TODAY at the field next to their headquarters (777 South Street, Tewksbury). Registration begins at 8:30am. The event runs from 9am to noon. The contest is open to all boys and girls ages 13 and under (as of August 1). All skill levels are welcomed. Trophies, medals and ribbons will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners.

#4) The Friends of Wilmington High School Field Hockey has organized a fundraiser at the Chipotle in Burlington (110 Burlington Mall Road) from noon to 4pm. 50% of each sale will be donated to the organization. Just bring this flyer or show it on your smart phone.

#5) Members of the Wilmington United Methodist Church (87 Church Street) is packing 20,000 emergency meals to be sent to areas of food insecurity beginning at 12:30pm. Learn more HERE.

#6) St. Thomas (126 Middlesex Avenue) is holding a Prayer Vigil for Peace at 5:45pm.  Learn more HERE.

#7) Abundant Life Church (173 Church Street) is holding a Church Picnic from 1pm to 5pm at the Rolling Ridge Retreat Center in North Andover (660 Great Pond Road). Learn more HERE.

#8) The Charities Committee of St. Thomas and St. Dorothy are collecting food, cleaning products and personal hygiene items for their own parishioners in need.  Donations of non-pershiable food items, household cleaning products, and personal hygiene items can be left at the entrances of both churches this weekend.

#9) Wilmington residents are invited to test your strength against a fire truck at the first American Cancer Society’s Pulling For Hope of Greater Billerica event at Marshall Middle School TODAY. Learn more HERE.

#10)  The Middlesex Canal Museum and Visitors’ Center (71 Faulkner Street, North Billerica) is open from noon to 4pm.  Learn about the canal’s history and its impact on the area, including Wilmington.
