CHICAGO, IL – The Under-16 Girls’ National Team will travel to the Netherlands from September 16 to September 27 for a training camp and three matches, one of which will be against the Netherlands U-17 Women’s National Team.
U.S. head coach Jaime Frias has called up 20 players for the trip, including Wilmington High School junior Olivia Wingate, who will see the USA play the Netherlands U-17s on September 20, along with matches against CTO Amsterdam on September 23 and CTO Eindhoven on September 26. The latter two opponents are regional academy teams. All the matches will be at the KNVB National Training Center located at their headquarters in Zeist.
This will be the second international trip of the year for this age group, participated in the 1st Women’s “Delle Nazioni” Tournament in Gradisca, Italy last spring. Summer Yates and Olivia Wingate combined to score five of the USA’s seven goals in the tournament.
Sixteen of the players in this camp were born in 2000 with four born in 2001. This age group is in the second year of a two-year cycle before becoming the U-18s and then the U-20s with the goal of playing in the 2020 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup. The players born in 2001 are age-eligible for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
