WILMINGTON, MA — Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, September 10, 2016.
Girls Grade 1:
Washington Spirit vs. Portland Thorns
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. The Washington Spirit led by Avery King, Molly Kilburn, and Emily Quamme got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Jillian Weinstein and Anna Cavanaugh led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Chloe Stryhalaleck and Meghann Warford kept the action going.
Boys Grade 1:
DC United vs. New York Red Bulls
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. The DC United led by Jackson Cipolle and Arnav Dwivedi got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Jake Gryglik, Mark Cataldo and Bijon Pourshadi led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Griffin Crowe, Nolan Acquaah-Harrison and Brady Cassidy kept the action going!
Girls Grade 2:
FC Kansas City vs. Portland Thorns
Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. FC Kansas City’s Vivian Ragsdale, Mia Machado, & Anne Reppucci scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Jenna Giammarco, Lucia Mendoza and Katie Perkins set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Emma Tarin, Heidi Ferrer and Kalea Lamb provided great protection for the two Goal Keepers, Madison O’Donoghue and Bailey O’Connor who provided lock down goal keeping to keep the team in the game.
Boston Breakers vs. Chicago Stars
Saturdays Match Between the Chicago Star and the Boston Breakers. One could only believe the silence of the crowd was due to the fantastic ball skill of Megan Smith, Mia Barresi,Claire Connelly Katlyn Costello and Molly Guyette. It did not take long for the crowd to cheer as goals were scored by Abigail Engvaldsen, Emma Nolan and Anna Heiplik. The Boston Breakers defensive stand made by Madison Forbush, Elisabeth Gillis, Charrlotte Kiley, Hailey Reguera, Leah Hanafin and Alliana Pilchercould only be viewed as heroic.
Boys Grade 2:
NE Revolution vs. Chicago Fire
What a spectacular opening day for the NE Revolution who battled the tough Chicago Fire on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The Revs defense held strong the first half as Cole Falk, Michael O’Hearn, Joshua Nille and Ian Heos disrupted the attacks until the Fire found the net at the 8th and 16th minute mark. Nate Anderson put the Revolution in striking distance with his goal on the 19th minute, with help from strong midfield plays from Cameron Molina and Preston Hunt. The second half started out with a bang as Daniel D’Augusta scored for the Revolution, but the Fire could not be extinguish. The Revolution persistent play from Thomas Murphy, Aiden O’Hearn, along with a strong net tending from Zachary Atwater made for an entertaining second half only to see the strong team effort go down on opening day.
New England Revolution vs. Chicago Fire
The Chicago Fire was also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Devin DeGennaro, Jack Morin, and Ben Harris leading to goals by Dillan Roberts, Jonathan Malley, Jake Arsenault, and Jack Cronin. The defense showcased their skills today with Collin Holman, Richard Holland, and Carter Callis keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game; Jake Arsenault and Carter Callis also played a great game in net, keeping the game in hand.
