WILMINGTON, MA — At Monday night’s meeting, the Wilmington Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a resident’s request to illuminate the Wilmington Town Common in gold for the rest of September in observance of Childhood Cancer Awareness.
“The individuals who made the request have requested to remain anonymous,” explained Town Manager Jeff Hull. “They have agreed to make a donation to cover the cost of the lighting.”
According to Hull, the town’s Departments of Public Works and Public Buildings will be quickly making arrangements to purchase the necessary materials that will allow for the color of the lights to be changed.
“We appreciate this very generous donation and accept it with gratitude,” noted Selectwoman Judy O’Connell, who thanked Selectman Kevin Caira for bringing the anonymous resident’s suggestion forward.
Previous Town Common lighting alterations have included — but are not limited to — blue for Autism Awareness Month, pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, purple for Relay For Life Awareness Month, and green for the “Greenlight a Vet” campaign.
