SELECTMEN NEWS: Selectmen Vote To Continue Halloween & Christmas Town Traditions

WILMINGTON, MA — At Monday’s meeting, the Wilmington Board of Selectmen unanimously approved an assortment of requests from town officials and residents.

#1) Selectmen approved the request of the Wilmington Recreation Commission to conduct its 49th Annual Horribles Parade on Sunday, October 30.  The parade leaves the Public Safety Building at 4:30pm and ends at the High School Cafeteria where “free goodies will be waiting.”  An estimated 550 kids attended last year’s event!

#2) Selectmen approved the requests of John Mainini and John Arvanitis for licenses to sell Christmas Trees for Wilmington Boy Scouts Troop 56 and the Wilmington United Methodist Church, respectively.  The groups will announce dates and times of the sales closer to the date.

#3) Selectmen approved the request of Wilmington Police Chief Michael Begonis, on behalf of the Wilmington Substance Abuse Coalition, to use the Town Common and Gazebo for a Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday, October 5, from 6pm to 8pm.  The vigil gives residents of Wilmington and surrounding communities an opportunity to remember those they have lost to the disease of addiction and come together to reduce the stigma associated with addiction.  In the case of inclement weather, the event will take place inside St. Thomas. #4) Selectmen approved the request of Kristen Stokes for residents on and around Jacobs Street, including West Jamaica Avenue, to hold a Neighborhood Block Party on Saturday, September 17, from 2pm to 8pm.

#5) Selectmen approved the request of Town Clerk Sharon George to appoint additional election workers for the upcoming November election.  New workers included Audrey Reed and Sandra Cosman. Town Manager Jeff Hull noted that, due to the expected high turnout, the Town Clerk will likely be requesting even more election workers in the coming weeks.
