PHOTO: Ipswich River Watershed Association Draws Attention To Dry Riverbeds

HAMILTON, MA — The Ipswich River Watershed Association’s Board of Directors invited members and donors to a breakfast on the dry riverbed in Hamilton on Sunday, September 11 to highlight the river’s record low flow conditions. The goal of the gathering was to show people firsthand the significant damage caused by excessive water withdrawals which has been exacerbated by this year’s drought. The event was attended by about 60 people who listened to remarks by Executive Director Wayne Castonguay on the impacts of the low flow conditions and what everyone can do to help address the problem. According to Wayne, “The river would be flowing here were it not for the 40 million gallons being withdrawn today. We know what the problem is and what the solutions are and the time has come to fix the river’s problems once and for all.”
