SCHOOL COMMITTEE NEWS: Big Issues To Be Discussed At This Week’s Meeting

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington School Committee meets this Wednesday, September 14 at 6:30pm in the Large Instruction Room at Wilmington High School.

There are some newsworthy items on the agenda, including:

  • Superintendent DeLai will introduce 49 new staff members that recently joined Wilmington Public Schools.  DeLai will also submit a Personnel Report recapping all the personnel changes since the end of the last school year.
  • Superintendent DeLai will announce her intention to create a working group to examine changing school start times in Wilmington. Specifically, the group “will be tasked with researching reasonable start times for all grade levels, investigating possible obstacles to a change in start times, proposing possible solutions, and creating an action plan for any changes in time.”
  • The School Committee will discuss the Superintendent’s 2016-2017 goals.
  • The School Committee may take a formal position against Ballot Question 2 in regards lifting the cap on new charter schools to up to 12 per year.
  • The School Committee will discuss some revisions to the district’s currently policies involving (1) administering medicine to students and (2) alcohol, tobacco and drug use by students.
  • The School Committee will receive a report about the success of this year’s Wildcat Summer Sports Camps.
  • The School Committee will consider an out-of-state, 2-day field trip to New York City for high school students enrolled in Spanish classes.
  • The School Committee will discuss how it plans on conducting a self-evaulation.

The meeting will be telecast live by Wilmington Community Television on WCTV-E — Channel 99 on Comcast and Channel 39 on Verizon.  The meeting will also streamed on WCTV’s website HERE.
