POLICE LOG for September 6: Police Make 3 Arrests; Runaway Chickens; Hummer vs. Pole

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are ELEVEN highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for Tuesday, September 6, 2016:

  • A black 2016 Toyota Corolla and a green 2002 Ford Explorer were involved in a crash in front of Chili’s on Main Street. An off-duty  firefighter was immediately on scene providing treatment. Fire Department transported one of the drivers to the hospital. One vehicle was towed. Police notified Mass. DOT to fix a traffic light post that was damaged. (8:21am)
  • Cullen Maroney (20, Wilmington) was arrested on a warrant of apprehension. Police transported him to Woburn District Court. (12:36pm)
  • Police notified DPW that a manhole needed replacing near Hub International New England on Ballardvale Street. (1:56pm)
  • A Glen Road caller reported a couple of chickens were in their yard. Police responded. Chickens were returned to a home on Loumac Road. Police advised chickens’ owner and the Board of Health. (2:28pm)
  • Police notified DPW about an abandoned ladder on the sidewalk near the Congregational Church on Middlesex Avenue. (3:18pm)
  • Police received a report of an elderly male on the side of the road on Woburn Street making inappropriate gestures to passing vehicles. (5:25pm)
  • Owner of a gray 2011 Honda Pilot reported a hit and run in the Market Basket parking lot. No description was provided on the vehicle that fled. (6:39pm)
  • Police received a complaint of 2 cats and a dog inside a black Volkswagen in the Market Basket parking lot. Vehicle left prior to the officer’s arrival. (7:15pm)
  • Daniel Joseph McCarthy (26, Wilmington) was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license (subsequent offense.) (7:39pm)
  • Ronald Mastropietro (29, Beverly), a passenger of McCarthy’s, was arrested for possession of a Class E drug. (7:39pm)
  • A red 2008 Hummer struck a telephone pole near Burger King on Lowell Street. Police notified Verizon. No injuries noted. (11:05pm)
