Wilmington POLICE LOG (Week of August 28, 2016)

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, August 28, 2016.

Sunday, August 28:

  • Police notified Mass. Highway that the lights in front of Simards were again stuck on flashing mode. (7:30am)
  • A red 1950 Ford Fire Truck broke down at the intersection of Concord Street and Woburn Street, blocking part of the roadway. A&S Towing was unable to tow the truck due to its size, so police notified Coady’s Towing. (2:12pm)
  • Police noted damage to the door of the snack shack at the Glen Road fields. (3:09pm)
  • Fire Department responded to a possible electrical fire on Ballardvale Street. (5:13pm)
  • A caller was approached by an unknown male asking for a ride while stopped at a light in front of Tremezzo. Police assisted the male in getting him and his belongings to the train station. (5:32pm)
  • A Cypress Street caller reported numerous teenagers running up and down the street, screaming using foul language. Police responded, spoke with parents, and advised them to keep the juveniles inside and to turn down the music. (8:51pm)
  • Nashua Police Department requested a check of a Treasure Hill Road residence for the owner of a vehicle that was significantly damaged in a hit and run. (10:08pm)

Monday, August 29:

  • Police noticed two vehicles in a parking lot on Middlesex Avenue and felt it to be suspicious.  Police found that the parties were playing Pokemon Go. (1:09am)
  • A school employee found a hypodermic needle in the rear of the Shawsheen School parking lot. Police retrieved the needle. (7:30am)
  • Glass was reported on the sidewalk on Aldrich Road from a previous motor vehicle accident. Police notified DPW. (8:33am)
  • A Marcia Road resident reported they were a victim of credit card fraud. (2:15pm)
  • Fire Department responded to a brush fire off of Main Street. Police shut down a portion of Main Street, per the Fire Department’s request. Reading Light, National Grid, and Eversource were notified. State Police provided road closure signs. Learn more about the brush fire response HERE. (5:10pm)
  • A gray 2014 Ford Fusion and a white 2016 Acura SE were involved in an accident in the high school parking lot. No injuries. (5:51pm)
  • A Judith Road resident reported she was a victim of credit card fraud. (6:59pm)

Tuesday, August 30:

  • Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Cook Avenue. (5:04am)
  • Resident reported a large tree was down across the roadway on Bailey Road, completely blocking traffic. Police notified DPW, who responded and removed the tree. Police noted the Bailey Road street sign was missing. (5:40am)
  • A black 1998 Toyota Camry 4 Runner and a gray 2005 Toyota Tacoma were involved in a crash at Fordham Road and Concord Street. No injuries noted. One vehicle was towed. (6:51am)
  • Police notified Mass Highway that the traffic lights in front of the Wilmington Plaza were stuck in a flashing mode. (8:51am)
  • A Clifton Street homeowner reported his town-issued trash barrel went missing last week and pieces of it were found in the woods.  Resident believes a vehicle possibly struck it. Police notified DPW. (9:58am)
  • A Somerville Avenue caller stated his neighbor parked in front of his house, blocking his trash from being picked up. Police spoke with both parties and resolved the issue. (12:26pm)
  • A Marjorie Road caller reported the license plate for his brown 2000 Toyota Avalon was lost or stolen. (2:42pm)
  • DPW and Town Manager’s Offices notified the Police Department that a walk-in party reported water ban violations throughout the neighborhood of New Hampshire Road, Vermont Road, and Bradford Road. (2:48pm)
  • A Day Street resident complained of squirrel who may have rabies in her yard.  Police responded, but squirrel already left the yard. (3:49pm)
  • A caller reported the gas station attendant at Jimmy’s Garage threw his credit card away. Police responded. Attendant returned credit card and peace was restored. Caller will follow up with gas station manager tomorrow. (6:19pm)

Wednesday, August 31:

  • Police received a complaint of a large office chair left in the road on Bridge Lane. Police pulled it to the side of the road and notified Keolis for removal. (6:50am)
  • Police cited 3 drivers for speeding near the Boutwell Early Childhood Center. (7:24am)
  • Police cited 3 drivers for speeding near the North Intermediate School. (8:07am)
  • Police notified Mass Highway that the lights at the intersection in front of Wilmington Plaza are on flash. (8:46am)
  • A caller reported a white SUV struck a mailbox on Lake Street. (9:18am)
  • A walk-in party reported they were given 3 bad checks worth a total of $15,000. (11:36am)
  • Wilmington Police installed 7 safety seats for residents at the Public Safety Building. (12:28pm)
  • High School underwent a fire drill. (1:20pm)
  • A Jordan Street caller reported her neighbor’s dogs just came into her yard and killed her chickens. (1:54pm)
  • Employee accidentally tripped panic alarm at Registry of Motor Vehicles on Middlesex Avenue. (1:57pm)
  • Police issued a citation to a driver on Burlington Avenue for failing to stop for a school bus. (1:58pm)
  • A caller found two hypodermic needles behind the Lucci’s plaza near the dumpster. Police retrieved needles for disposal. (4:41pm)
  • Police received report of 2 cars on the Butters Row bridge — neither allowing the other to pass, causing a traffic back-up.  By the time police arrived, there was no traffic issues. (6:43pm)
  • A caller reported a female appeared intoxicated standing in front of the Benjamin Moore store on main Street. Police waited with her until a cab picked her up. (9:07pm)

Thursday, September 1:

  • Police issued 7 speeding citations on Glen Road. (8:18am-8:47am)
  • Woburn Street School had a fire drill. (8:47am)
  • North Intermediate School had a fire drill. (8:57am)
  • Angel Luis Castro (27, Wilmington) was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding. Castro was pulled over on Jaques Lane. (9:13am)
  • Wilmington Middle School had a fire drill. (9:22am)
  • West Intermediate School had a fire drill. (9:45am)
  • Police issued 10 speeding citations on Jacques Lane. (9:09am-10:27am)
  • Police received report of a suspicious man on Bay Street walking around drinking beer. Police transported the man home. (2:42pm)
  • A Gandalf Way resident requested assistance with a baby chipmunk in her backyard. Animal Control Officer will leave the animal as is and follow up tomorrow. (3:15pm)
  • Market Basket manager reported 5 juveniles climbed onto the roof of the store. Juveniles later left area, but manager was able to provided pictures. Police eventually located juveniles and notified their parents. Police will follow up with Market Basket to see if they’re interested in pursuing a no trespass order. (3:25pm)
  • Reading Police wanted it logged that their speed alert board was vandalized while parked at Woburn Street and Eames Street between August 22 and September 1. Damage estimated at $4,000. (3:45pm)
  • A walk-in party reported his red 2014 Ford Focus was hit with struck while parked in the Market Basket parking lot. (5:13pm)
  • Fire Department responded to an oven fire on Oak Street. (6:02pm)
  • An Avalon Oaks resident reported a woman yelling in the apartment above her. Police responded. Woman was having a birthday party. Situation checked OK. (7:25pm)

Friday, September 2:

  • Police received multiple calls receiving a suspicious vehicle in the Salem Street area. Operator is a private investigator who is authorized to work in the area. (8:48am)
  • Animal Control Officer notified a dead woodchuck in the road at Kendall Street and Aldrich Road. (9:02am)
  • The private investigator on Salem Street reported an individual was throwing dog feces at his car. Police responded and restored the peace. (9:59am)
  • Police assisted with a motor vehicle lockout in the Bank of America parking lot on Main Street. (12:46pm)
  • A Norfolk Avenue resident reported eggs were thrown at her house. No damage was done to her home. (1:53pm)
  • A mother reported her son was supposed to be dropped off by Agganis Driving School 45 minutes ago at their Medford home.  She pinged his phone to Wilmington.  Police spoke with driving school, who was in the process of dropping off juvenile at his residence.  There was confusion about the length of the driving lesson. (8:28pm)
  • Fire Department responded to a brush fire in the area behind Salvation Army on Main Street. (10:21pm)

Saturday, September 3:

  • Police received report of an aggressive driver in a blue 2006 Nissan Altima. Caller said a driver was tailgating on Shawsheen Avenue and passed on the opposite side of the street. Police pulled the driver over on Main Street and conducted a sobriety test, which the driver passed. Driver was sent on his way. (2:04am)
  • A caller found a syringe on the side of the road on Apache Way. Police retrieved item for destruction. (6:35am)
  • A blue 2013 Yamaha and a white 2012 Toyota Rav 4 were involved in a crash on Main Street. No injuries reported. (12:25pm)
  • A red 2013 Kida Optima and a gray 2013 Honda Ridgeline were involved in a crash at Main Street and Middlesex Avenue. No injuries reported. (3:26pm)
  • A caller reported a green Toyota Corolla was operated erratically on Richmond Street. Police were unable to locate. (3:46pm)
  • A caller reported kids were riding bikes and scooters inside the tennis courts at Wilmington High.  Police advised the kids. (6:27pm)
  • An ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend got involved in a verbal altercation on Aldrich Road. Man wished to have woman removed. By the time police responded, woman had left in her vehicle, possibly under the influence. Police were unable to locate her. (9:03pm)
  • Police assisted with a motor vehicle lockout in the 4th of July Building’s parking lot. (9:41pm)
