WHS GOLF: Wildcats Show Promise In Close Season Opening Loss To Reading

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Golf Team (0-1) opened its season with a 34-38 loss against Middlesex League perennial powerhouse Reading at the Hillview Golf Course on Wednesday, September 7.

Match results:

  1. Billy McEvoy shot a 38 and lost his match, 4-5
  2. Dan Gracia shot a 38 and lost his match, 2-7
  3. Jake Fulkerson shot a 39 and won his match,  5½-3½
  4. Jack Boyle shot a 41 and tied his match, 4½–4½
  5. Steve Lobao shot a 40 and lost his match, 4-5
  6. Bobby Lord shot a 43 and lost his match, 2½-6 ½
  7. Steve Bonish shot a 42 and won his match, 5-4
  8. Ben Maynard shot a 40 and won his match, 6½-2½

“Losses are always hard to take, but this was an extremely encouraging match for the Wildcats and hopefully a sign of good things to come,” said an optimistic Head Coach Steve Lynch, who praised his players.  Lynch was especially impressed by Billy McEvoy, who nearly defeated Reading’s #1 golfer.
