LYNN, MA — Congressman Seth Moulton is hosting his inaugural Peter J. Gomes Service Award ceremony this Sunday, September 11 at 9am in the Lynn English High School Auditorium (50 Goodrich Street, Lynn).
“In August, I established the Peter J. Gomes Service Award, to be given annually to the individual in the Sixth District who best epitomizes the qualities of integrity, compassion, and commitment to community that were the foundation of the late Reverend Professor Peter J. Gomes’ teachings,” explains Congressman Seth Moulton.
Moulton’s office received more than 30 nominations and selected 6 finalists:
- Lou Cimaglia (Wilmington)
- Andrew Defranza (Beverly)
- Kristi Hale (North Andover)
- Kit Jenkins (Lynn)
- Rev. Art McDonald (Essex, Lynn)
- Maggie and Joe Rosa (Gloucester)
Cimaglia is Wilmington’s respected longtime Veterans Agent, named “Veterans Agent of the Year” by the Massachusetts Department of Veterans Services in 2012. He founded “Local Heroes,” for which he received the Myra Kraft Community MVP Award and a $25,000 donation for the non-profit. Cimaglia was selected as Wilmington’s Good Guy Award winner in 2006 and served 3 terms as a Selectman, from 2007 until earlier this year, when he decided not to seek re-election.
Cimaglia’s nomination reads, in part: “Lou has transformed the operations of Wilmington’s veteran services to highly responsive conduit for veterans and their spouces including financial assistance, health care coverage, substance abuse and mental health issues. He helps people on weekends, nights and takes emergency calls. Lou has and continues to put others first. Service is his way of life.”
The six finalists will be honored, and the winner will be announced, during an award ceremony to kick off a Day of Service and Remembrance on the 15th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
