WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Eagle Scout Frank West, Jr. was honored as the American Legion’s Massachusetts Eagle Scout of the Year at the Legion’s Annual Convention in Plymouth earlier this summer.
West, who delivered a speech at the convention, received his award in front of a large crowd that included his father Frank, Sr., his mother Karen, and his sister Colleen. West also earned himself a $1,000 college scholarship from the Massachusetts American Legion.
During his 12 years as a Scout, Frank West Jr. earned more than 30 merit badges and several Catholic religious medals, including the Pope Pius XII, Ad Altare Dei, and the Parvuli medals. West’s Eagle Scout project involved restoring the baptismal pool at the Wildwood Cemetery, originally built around 1840.
West now serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 136, which meets every Thursday, from 7pm to 8:30pm, at the Friendship Lodge (32 Main Street) in Wilmington. The troop, which is sponsored by American Legion Post 136 of Wilmington, is actively seeking new scouts. The troop has produced numerous Eagle Scouts over the past few years, including John Cimeno, Brian Eckelkamp, Tom Feidel, Matt Fregeau, Brent Johnson and West.
