WILMINGTON, MA — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, August 21, 2016.
Sunday, August 21:
- A Shady Lane Drive caller reported three tires on her daughter’s vehicle were slashed overnight. Her daughter found a knife in the area. (6:55am)
- Melissa C. Hoover (23, Wilmington) was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, and speeding. (12:57pm)
- A Blanchard Road caller reported a red jeep had smoke coming from it and three white males in their 20’s are running away from it. Police responded. Vehicle was simply overheating. (2:43pm)
- Police assisted the Fire Department with a small brush fire near Heavenly Donuts on Main Street. (2:54pm)
- A tree fell on a minivan on Fairview Avenue. Vehicle was unoccupied at the time. Tree is not blocking roadway and did not make contact with power lines. Police notified DPW. (3:55pm)
- K9 Ridic underwent training on Fordham Road. (7:04pm)
- A Shawsheen Avenue caller reported his outdoor rug had been rolled up on Friday and today. He believes it to be juveniles and can see footprints leading to his fence. Caller wanted the incident logged. (7:16pm)
- A caller reported a grey sedan driving around Wildwood Cemetery slowly, stopping at her father’s site after she left it. Vehicle was gone when police arrived. (7:43pm)
- A caller reported an unknown female was going through the dumpsters outside Monogram Foods on Ballardvale Street. Woman was gone when police arrived. (7:45pm)
- A Grace Drive resident reported a silver Volkswagon was driving up and down the street repeatedly. Police responded. Driver was practicing for a driving test. Situation checked OK. (9:48pm)
- John F. Kelly (58, Wilmington) was arrested on a warrant. (10:31pm)
- A Wild Avenue caller reported he witnessed several juveniles on bicycles knocking over trash cans in the area. Police checked the area and were unable to locate the kids. (10:31pm)
Monday, August 22:
- Police responded to a fight in a parking lot on Avalon Drive. (1:29am) Police returned after reports of a group arguing. Police advised group to keep it down. (2:33am)
- A black Ground Master road bike was found abandoned behind the library. Police notified DPW. (8:46am)
- A North Street caller reported seeing a coyote behind her home. Animal Control Office responded. Animal was gone by the time officer arrived. (9:04am)
- Site manager of an unspecified Eames Street building reported the building was painted on and the property’s gate sensor was damaged. (10:14am)
- A Clark Street resident reported a Wilmington man jumped over her fence and picked up her dog. Police provided resident with paperback to attain a no trespass order. (3:43pm)
- An Aldrich Road caller reported a deceased very large opossum in front of her mailbox. (6:09pm)
- A passerby witnessed a red Camaro strike and kill a cat on Fay Street. Caller believed it to be deliberate. Caller had seen a similar vehicle parked on a nearby street. Operator was described as a middle-aged female with short blonde hair. (6:11pm)
- Police received a report of man walking on the train tracks behind Wilmington House of Pizza. Man was gone upon police arrival. (6:17pm)
- A Market Street manager called police, concerned over the well-being of an employee. Employee was told to leave because he seemed impaired. Police responded and okayed the employee to drive home. (8:51pm)
Tuesday, August 23:
- A Miller Road resident reported two wallets and an FBI award badge was taken from his vehicle sometime during the night of Sunday, August 21. (7:08am)
- Police issued a citation to an unidentified driver for operating after revocation of registration and for driving an uninsured motor vehicle. Vehicle was pulled over on Middlesex Avenue. Vehicle was towed. (7:25am)
- A manager at Market Basket reported a shoplifter. A tall, heavy-set white female wearing a flowered shirt and jeans walked out with groceries and left in a silver minivan. Manager gave license plate number to police. (9:48am)
- Police issued citations to a driver for two child seat belt violations. A 6-year-old and 7-year-old were not properly restrained. (2:06pm)
- Police noticed several racial slurs were written on some of the skate park equipment. Police spoke with the parents of the possible culprit. (2:41pm)
- SiriusXM reported a stolen vehicle was traveling on Main Street in Wilmington. Vehicle was reported stolen out of Boston around 9am. Vehicle turned on Shawsheen Avenue, then New Hampshire Road. Vehicle rammed a WPD cruiser and drove off. Wilmington Police notified Tewksbury & Billerica Police. Male driver hten fled on foot in the area of Flagstaff. K9 units called in. Vehicle was towed. Suspect was spotted on 320 South Street, then on Birch/Hoover, then later at 2451 Main Street and into the woods. Suspect was spotted in the woods near Chuckie’s. Police responded to a resident at 10 Main Street who reported hearing branches snapping in her yard. A caller on South Street in Tewksbury reported movement in the boat in his yard. [Man would remain on the lamb throughout the night.] [(4:55pm-on)
- A caller reported a suspicious man at the end of Scaltrito Drive possibly matching the description of the manhunt suspect. Police responded. Man at end of street claimed he was assisting in the police search. Situation checked OK. (8:51pm)
- A brown 2012 Honda CRV struck a pole at Jacques Lane and Lake Street. Both occupants were injured. A Medflight was called in and landed at Shawsheen Elementary School. Police notified the Water Department because a hydrant was displaced. Police notified RMLD because a pole was struck. A&S Towing towed the vehicle. State Police reconstructed the accident. (10:05pm)
- Wilmington Police Cruiser #31 was taken out of service after it was rammed earlier in the day. (11:48pm)
Wednesday, August 24:
- Eric Gordon (28, Methuen) was arrested for OUI (Liquor), Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked License; and Failure To Stop/Yield. Gordon was involved in a crash at Lowell Street and West Street. No injuries noted. (12:29am)
- Police spoke to a Boston Globe delivery driver about speeding in the Marion Street neighborhood. (4:56am)
- Tewksbury Police requested assistance after last night’s suspect was seen running into the woods in the Hill Street area in Tewksbury. Man was then seen hopping fences on Laurie Drive. Suspect was eventually taken into custody at 10 Carlton Road in Tewksbury. (9:24am)
- A Harold Avenue caller reported she was contacted by a person claiming to be from Bank of America, stating her mother had won Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes and checking account information was needed to deposit the winnings. Caller did not provide any information and wanted the incident logged. (10:10am)
- A West Street caller reported that approximately 45 minutes ago, her pug was struck by a car. Caller stated she drove the dog to the vet and did not get the information of the operator of the vehicle or the license plate number, but when she returned home, she located the license plate in the roadway. (11:07am)
- Police retrieved a stolen bike from Tewksbury and delivered it to its owner on Scaltrito Drive in Wilmington. (5:51pm)
- A red 2004 Mitsubishi Gallant and a white 2016 Subaru Forester were involved in a minor crash at Shawsheen Avenue and Aldrich Road. No injuries reported. (6:43pm)
Thursday, August 25:
- Police investigated suspicious activity as the Town Park (Aprile Field) on Main Street. Situation checked OK. Two parties were cleaning up after a softball tournament. (1:38am)
- Police notified Mass Highway that the 45 MPH speed limit sign was falling over near Compumachine Incorporated on Main Street. (10:59am)
- Staff from the Wilmington Senior Center reported a Deming Way resident told them a young, tall, thin white male was attempting to get into the rear entrance of the complex but did not belong there. Police was unable to locate the man. (1:47pm)
- The manager at Red Heat Tavern reported a man was displaying strange behavior in the parking lot. Man was not a patron, but parked next to the dumpster, entered the dumpster and asked an employee for a hose, claiming he lost something. Police responded and moved the man along. (4:13pm)
- A 15-year-old girl reported someone was trying to enter her home. Caller then realized it was a friend. Police still responded. Situation checked OK. (5:21pm)
- Police issued a citation for a failed inspection sticker to the operator of a gray 2008 Saturn Aura on Lowell Street. A small amount of marijuana was also confiscated. (6:34pm)
- A Chestnut Street caller reported four cars just passed his house driving at least 80 MPH. Police were unable to locate the vehicles, but will patrol the area. (6:53pm)
- State Police called in an erratic operator on 93 South. Black Chevy pickup truck was traveling at high speeds while throwing beer cans out the window. Truck was last seen getting off at Exit 40. Police were unable to locate. (8:42pm)
- Nathaniel D. Newton (29, Newton) was taken into protective custody after police came across him in the Elia’s parking lot on Middlesex Avenue. (10:37pm)
- Sonic manager reported a car ran over the median and was leaking transmission fluid in the roadway. Police responded. Vehicle was towed. (10:58pm)
Friday, August 26:
- Brian J. Caputo (41, Lowell) was arrested for OUI (Liquor), Use of a Motor Vehicle Without Authority, Failure To Stop For Police, Speeding, Failure To Stop, Marked Lanes Violation, Operating A Motor Vehicle With A Revoked License, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, A&B with a Dangerous Weapon, B&E Building At Nighttime To Commit A Felony, Malicious Destruction of Property valued at over $250, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Resisting Arrest. Prior to the case, Caputo smashed the back glass door of the Corner Store on Shawsheen Avenue in an attempted B&E. 2 police cruisers suffered damaged during the pursuit after purposely being rammed by Caputo. Police provided additional information on the incident HERE.
- Police notified Bailey Road street sign was missing and notified DPW. (8:43am)
- A Ring Avenue caller reported a black male wearing a skully cap was walking onto properties, holding a clipboard. Police spoke with the man, who worked for Scots Lawn Care and was obtaining an estimate to a resident in the area. (10:47am)
- A Salem Street resident reported a sick bat in her backyard. (1:18pm)
- A Clorinda Road resident reported a sick coyote in her neighbor’s yard. Police responded and found that the animal was a fox, which eventually ran off. (2:30pm)
- A secretary from an Andover Street company reported raccoons trapped in a dumpster. Both raccoons were eventually freed. (4:27pm)
- Lutee Xramah Cooper (36, Minnesota) was issued a summons for the unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, registration not in possession, and speeding. Cooper was pulled over at Eames Street and Jewel Drive. (6:00pm)
- A caller reported finding two hypodermic needles on Shawsheen Avenue. Police retrieved the needles for disposal. (7:34pm)
- A Castle Drive resident reported having his doorbell rang repeatedly, but no one is at the door when he answers it. (8:46pm)
- A gray 1999 Cadillac DeVille struck a motorcycle on Woburn Street. Motorcyclist was transported to a hospital. Driver of Cadillac received a citation for failure to yield. (9:27pm)
Saturday, August 27:
- Police notified Mass. Highway that the lights in front of Simards were stuck on flashing mode. (7:18am)
- A caller reported possibly drug paraphernalia on a grassy lot on Williams Avenue. Police retrieved some Class D drugs and a digital scale. (9:53am)
- On a check of Town Beach, a beachgoer wanted to speak to someone regarding having the bathrooms opened even when lifeguards are off-duty and beach season is formally over. (12:17pm)
- Police noted that the automated sprinkler system was running at Metro at Wilmington Station in violation of the water ban. Police notified the Water Department. (1:49pm) [UPDATE: Metro at Wilmington Station uses a private well for watering and is not under the jurisdiction of the Water Department. The Water Department notified the Police of the private well.]
- Police located an abandoned blue Mongoose bike on the side of the road on Shawsheen Avenue. (4:00pm)
- Dustin R. Cole (30, Wilmington) was arrested on warrants for assault & battery on a family member and larceny under $250. Cole was arrested near Citizens Bank on Main Street. (4:47pm)
- A gray 2006 Acura struck a parked white 2o14 Chevy Traverse in the Salvation Army parking lot. (5:17pm)
- Police received a report that a hit & run accident occurerd around 11:30am near the Wilmington Congregational Church. (6:46pm)
- Police received a loud music complaint on Cunningham Street. Police spoke with those at a gathering who agreed to keep it down. (7:26pm)
- Police received a loud music complaint on Kilmarnock Street. Police responded. Band stopped playing and party moved inside. (10:39pm)
