Cookin’ the Books *RR
Tuesday, September 6, 12 pm
Featured Cookbook: Mexican Everyday by Rick Bayless
If you love to cook and enjoy talking about food and sharing recipes then this book group is for you. Please stop by the library to pick up a copy (or find a recipe from the book online), select a recipe, and then email your recipe selection to book club leader Lisa Crispin (lcrispin@mvlc.org). Bring your dish to the meeting, enjoy sampling everyone’s dishes, and enjoy the company. Come hungry!
Hands-on with Microsoft Word *RR
Wednesday, September 7, 7 pm
Join Technology Librarian, Brad McKenna, for a hands-on exercise with Microsoft Word. In this class you’ll learn how to change font styles, create lists, insert pictures, and more. A handout for additional practice will be provided.
Energy Savings presented by RMLD *RR
Thursday, September 8, 7 pm
Learn how to reduce your energy bills before the cooler temperatures set in. A representative from The Reading Municipal Light Department will talk about ways to conserve energy and save money on electric bills, types of billing options, RMLD’s mobile app, audits, and more.
Writing Group *RR
*Saturday, September 10, 9:15 am-11:15 am (second Saturday)
Group will meet the first Saturday of the month at 10 am starting in October.
If you love to write and seek feedback, then join our writing group. Please bring up to five pages of written work to the meeting. Open to all genres and levels. When registering, please provide your email address so you can receive an agenda and any prep materials in advance. Led by local writing enthusiast,Barbara Alevras.
Pastel Painting Workshop: Stunning Still Lifes with Greg Maichack (limit 30)
Saturday, September 10, 11 am-1 pm
Register at main desk (cost $5)
This hands-on art workshop for adults is designed for beginners to experienced artists. Participants will experiment with the artist’s professional grade pastels, pastel pencils, and pastel paper and will produce their own still life pastel paintings applying techniques applied by masters such as van Gogh, O’Keeffe, and Monet. This workshop is supported in part by a grant from Wilmington Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Great Decisions Series (limit 28, cost $25 for briefing book)

This six-session Great Decisions program will focus on some of the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans: Middle East Alliances, The Rise of ISIS, The Future of Kurdistan, Migration, The United Nations, and Climate Change. Participants will use a briefing book published by the Foreign Policy Association and will be led in discussion by facilitator, Keith West.

Create your own masterpiece in the style of three celebrated artists and illustrators. We’ll explore different forms of media and techniques to make one of a kind artwork for you to take home. Grades 1-5
Crafternoons: Pineapple Night Lights *RR
Thursday, September 15, 3:45 pm
Create a pineapple night light with mason jars, electric tea lights and tissue paper. Grades 4-8

The library will be closed on Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day. The library will resume Saturday hours on Saturday, September 10.
