POLICE LOG for August 23: Police Cruiser Rammed, Manhunt Ensues; Racial Slurs Written At Skate Park

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are NINE highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for Tuesday, August 23, 2016:

  • A Miller Road resident reported two wallets and an FBI award badge was taken from his vehicle sometime during the night of Sunday, August 21. (7:08am)
  • Police issued a citation to an unidentified driver for operating after revocation of registration and for driving an uninsured motor vehicle.  Vehicle was pulled over on Middlesex Avenue. Vehicle was towed. (7:25am)
  • A manager at Market Basket reported a shoplifter. A tall, heavy-set white female wearing a flowered shirt and jeans walked out with groceries and left in a silver minivan. Manager gave license plate number to police. (9:48am)
  • Police issued citations to a driver for two child seat belt violations. A 6-year-old and 7-year-old were not properly restrained. (2:06pm)
  • Police noticed several racial slurs were written on some of the skate park equipment. Police spoke with the parents of the possible culprit. (2:41pm)
  • SiriusXM reported a stolen vehicle was traveling on Main Street in Wilmington. Vehicle was reported stolen out of Boston around 9am.  Vehicle turned on Shawsheen Avenue, then New Hampshire Road. Vehicle rammed a WPD cruiser and drove off.  Wilmington Police notified Tewksbury & Billerica Police. Male driver hten fled on foot in the area of Flagstaff.  K9 units called in.  Vehicle was towed.  Suspect was spotted on 320 South Street, then on Birch/Hoover, then later at 2451 Main Street and into the woods. Suspect was spotted in the woods near Chuckie’s.  Police responded to a resident at 10 Main Street who reported hearing branches snapping in her yard. A caller on South Street in Tewksbury reported movement in the boat in his yard.  [Man would remain on the lamb throughout the night.] [(4:55pm-on)
  • A caller reported a suspicious man at the end of Scaltrito Drive possibly matching the description of the manhunt suspect. Police responded. Man at end of street claimed he was assisting in the police search. Situation checked OK. (8:51pm)
  • A brown 2012 Honda CRV struck a pole at Jacques Lane and Lake Street. Both occupants were injured. A Medflight was called in and landed at Shawsheen Elementary School. Police notified the Water Department because a hydrant was displaced. Police notified RMLD because a pole was struck. A&S Towing towed the vehicle. State Police reconstructed the accident. (10:05pm)
  • Wilmington Police Cruiser #31 was taken out of service after it was rammed earlier in the day. (11:48pm)
