Wilmington POLICE LOG (Week of August 14, 2016)

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, August 14, 2016.

Sunday, August 14:

  • Police were out behind the Public Safety Building with 3 individuals who were looking for their drone. Drone was located on the roof of the building.  Drone was retrieved and parties were sent on their way. (3:04am)
  • A female juvenile called to report that she and her boyfriend were walking on Glen Road and a man in a white van with black rims stopped and offered them a ride. The driver was described as a white male, heavy set, with curly brown hair. No license plate given and caller was unable to identify make of vehicle. Caller felt it was suspicious and wanted it logged. Caller was advised if she sees a vehicle in the area again, or if she’s approached again, to call as soon as possible. (4:15am)
  • Police received a report of a box knives on the ground on Salem Street. Police responded and retrieved a box of old silverware for disposal. (8:55am)
  • Police noticed a group of individuals on the path behind Ristuccia Arena and sent them on their way. (1:04pm)
  • Police received a report of a wire down and on fire near A&S Towing on Andover Street. Fire Department and RMLD responded. (2:59pm)
  • Police notified DPW that tree branches were hanging over the sidewalk at Main Street and Veranda Avenue, causing a safety issue for pedestrians. (6:30pm)
  • Police received report of a group of youths playing basketball in the gazebo. Caller was concerned about damage. Group was gone by the time police arrived. (7:37pm)
  • Police noticed a man outside the Congregational Church.  Man was playing Pokemon Go and sent on his way. (9:42pm)

Monday, August 15:

  • A brown 1999 Toyota Camry and a gray motorcycle were involved in a crash on Woburn Street. No injuries noted. Camry was towed. Police confiscated the motorcycle operator’s backpack at the scene. It contained a large amount of a Class D substance. (6:07am)
  • A caller reported a RMLD pole on North Street was damaged overnight. Police confirmed the pole was snapped at the base. RMLD responded. Police issued an unnamed individual a summons for leaving the scene of property damage and speeding. (6:37am)
  • A Grant Street resident turned in old ammunition for destruction. (10:27am)
  • A Hillcrest Street home surrendered 2 adult cats and 2 kittens to the North Andover/Haverhill Animal Hospital. (11:06am)
  • Animal Control Officer responded after reports of a deceased ground hog was in the roadway of Chestnut Street causing a foul odor. (11:32am)
  • Police notified the Public Buildings Department of broken class outside the building, near the playground, at the Shawsheen Elementary School. (12:25pm)
  • A Park Street resident reported their mailbox was damaged. Police responded and determined the damage was recent, likely done by a Volkswagen. A hubcap belonging to a Volkswagen was found in the area.  Police put out a BOLO for a Volkswagen-style vehicle missing a hubcap. (1:06pm)  The vehicle was later found and insurance information was exchanged. (5:15pm)
  • A Roberts Road caller reported a scam phone call from a Houston, TX number. (3:53pm)
  • A Castle Drive caller reported somebody hit his trash barrel and moved it about 20 yards down the street. Caller wanted the incident logged. (9:12pm)
  • An intoxicated man was in McDonald’s making workers uncomfortable. Man was described as 6-foot, camo backpack, red shirt and black hat. Police located the man after he left the store and sent him on his way. (10:19pm)
  • Police responded to a group of youths skateboarding in the Avalon Oaks parking lot, causing a disturbance. Group agreed to take it inside for the night. (11:10mp)

Tuesday, August 16:

  • A Mill Road caller reported the newspaper delivery driver is speeding through the neighborhood and its an ongoing issue. (5:27am)
  • Police notified DPW over a large tree down on West Street, blocking the road. Police shut down a portion of the road while DPW worked to remove the tree. (6:26am)
  • A Chestnut Street resident reported his trash barrel went missing between 6:30pm on Monday and 4am on Tuesday. (1:05pm)
  • A health advocate reported finding drug paraphernalia in a Glendale Circle home while checking on an elderly party. Police retrieved hypodermic needles for disposal. (2:38pm)
  • A caller reported an unknown species of animal was in her yard and not scared off by the honking of a car horn or revving of the engine. Caller was afraid to get out of the car. Police responded. Animal was a cat, believed to be missing from 61 Faulkner Avenue. Police were unable to detain the cat, which ran into the woods. (3:30pm)
  • Police assisted with traffic while the Water Department responded to a water main break on Salem Street. (6:37pm)
  • A caller reported a mechanical piece of the car wash at Triton Car Wash came through his car window. (10:05pm)
  • Ryan T. Fullen (19, Tewksbury) was issued a summons for assault with a dangerous weapon.  Fullen was pulled over after Tewksbury Police alerted Wilmington Police of a road rage incident in Tewksbury. Police retrieved a black semi-automatic BB pistol from Fullen’s vehicle. (10:09pm)

Wednesday, August 17:

  • Police noticed 2 individuals playing Pokemon Go in the Wildwood Cemetery and sent them on their way. (1:48am)
  • Police notified DPW of a large tree limb down across the road on Ayotte Street. (2:31am)
  • A caller reported a white man wearing a red shirt and red shorts was seen jogging out of the yard at NER Construction on Woburn Street. Caller was unsure if anything was taken and in what direction the man headed in his vehicle. Police notified surrounding communities. Vehicle was stopped in Reading. The driver — Enrique E. Caceda (50, Malden) — was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. (5:55am)
  • A caller reported a woman was asking for money from customers in the Savers parking lot. Woman was described as white wearing a white shirt and white shorts. Police responded and caught up with the woman at Cumberland Farms on Main Street. Police moved the woman along. (10:00am)
  • Thomas G. Rooney (57, Wilmington) was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, failure to stop/yield, and driving an unregistered motor vehicle. (10:40am)
  • Derek A. Queen (24, Wilmington) was arrested for armed robbery.
  • Dominic R. McCann (25, Wilmington) was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding. (4:29pm)
  • Police assisted the Fire Department with an electrical fire on Middlesex Avenue. (5:16pm)
  • Police advised a small group of kids to stop playing football in the parking lot of the Dunkin Donuts on Middlesex Avenue. (7:12pm)

Thursday, August 18:

  • A caller spotted a fox near St. Dorothy’s.  Animal Control Officer responded, but could not locate the anima. (1:36pm)
  • A Subway employee called the Police Department after a customer with a service dog came into the restaurant.  Employee was previously told by the franchise owner not to allow dogs in the store.  Animal Control Officer advised employee of service animal laws. (1:51pm)
  • A Mill Road caller reported they received a call stating that their father was in an accident and being held hostage. Caller suspected and later confirmed it was a scam call. (4:52pm)
  • Police gave a verbal warning for speeding to a driver on Shawsheen Avenue. Driver said she was taking her child to urgent ccare center for an illness.  Driver declined any medical help. (6:10pm)
  • Police issued a driver a citation for two counts of child seta belt violations. A 3-year-old and a 7-year-old were unsecured. (6:23pm)
  • A caller reported a boy at the Skate Park with a red shirt and black shorts made threatening statements regarding the caller’s dog. Police responded and spoke to a group of youths, who said the boy who had the verbal altercation already left. (7:21pm)
  • A Harold Avenue caller reported that it appeared someone attempted to break into their home via screen door between tonight and last Sunday. (8:23pm)
  • Police received a loud party complaint on Aldrich Road. Police responded and restored the peace. (10:33pm)

Friday, August 19:

  • Police checked on a vehicle parked in the rear of the parking lot of Grace Chapel. Parties were playing Pokemon Go. (1:01am)
  • A gray 2010 Honda CRV and a gray 2004 Acura 4D were involved in a crash near Grace Chapel on West Street.  Both vehicles were towed. One driver was transported to the hospital. (6:48am)
  • A Roosevelt Road caller reported her mailbox was damaged overnight. (7:56am)
  • A street sign for Shady Lane Drive was reported missing. Police notified DPW. (1:43pm)
  • A caller reported finding a syringe on Nickerson Avenue. Police retrieved the item and returned it for proper disposal. (4:50pm)
  • A Clyde Avenue caller reported a dog from Main Street came onto his property and attacked him and his dog.  Owner had a small cut to his finger and dog appeared to have a bite mark on its neck. Animal Control Officer to follow up. (9:03pm)
  • A caller reported a possibly intoxicated man approached her in the Lucci’s parking lot and asked her for train times and a ride. When she refused, he walked towards the liquor store. Police were unable to locate the man. (9:50pm)
  • The manager of Target was closing up for the night and requested assistance in moving along an 18-wheeler parked in the lot. Police sent the truck on its way. (10:50pm)

Saturday, August 20:

  • Police arrested Peter McDonagh (24, Billerica) for OUI Liquor (2nd Offense); Marked Lanes Violation; and Motor Vehicle Lights Violation. McDonagh was arrested on Burlington Avenue after a tip from the Tewksbury Police Department. (2:56am)
  • An Oakdale Road caller reported their neighbor was currently using sprinklers. Police notified the Water Department. (10:34am)
  • Fire Department responded to a Carbon Monoxide alarm on Patches Pond Lane. (11:39am)
  • Wilmington Police notified Tewksbury Police of a complaint received of an elderly driver crossing the double yellow lines several times on Main Street, heading towards Tewksbury. (2:37pm)
  • Fire Department responded to a car fire near the 93 North Exit 41 ramp. (4:07pm)
  • An Avalon Drive caller reported someone broke into her glove box and went through her belongings.  Upon inspection, police saw no signs of prying and nothing was missing. May have been an oversight. (4:12pm)
  • A caller reported a dog was left in a car in the Market Basket parking lot. Police responded. Car’s sun roof was open, windows didn’t feel warm, and the dog did not appear in distress. Situation checked OK. (4:13pm)
  • Wilmington Police assisted the North Reading Police Department was a large disturbance in Cowabunga’s in North Reading. (5:58pm)
