WILMINGTON, MA — On Friday morning, August 26, 2016, Officer Kevin Skinner of the Wilmington Police Department observed a 2007 GMC Envoy operating erratically and at a high rate of speed in the vicinity of Hopkins Street and Shawsheen Avenue in Wilmington.
When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the operator fled, refusing to stop.
Wilmington officers were able to follow the vehicle into Woburn where the operator turned down Joseph Terrace which is a dead end street.
The suspect vehicle then struck a parked vehicle at the end of the street and his exit was blocked by several Wilmington cruisers.
The suspect attempted further escape by placing the vehicle in reverse and ramming into two Wilmington cruisers.
The officers were able to get the vehicle stopped and take the operator into custody.
It was quickly learned that the suspect had just committed a Breaking and Entering at The Corner Store on Shawsheen Avenue in Wilmington where Officer Skinner had first observed the suspect. The suspect had used the vehicle to smash in the rear glass door of the business.
The suspect has been identified as 41 year old Brian J. Caputo of 81 Arnold Ave., Lowell MA.
