Stolen Vehicle Rams Police Cruiser, Suspect Flees & Remains At Large

WILMINGTON, MA — On Tuesday evening, around 5:30pm, a slim black or dark-skinned Hispanic male — wearing a blue plaid shirt, a black hat  and possibly carrying an orange and green backpack — drove a stolen vehicle into a stationary police cruiser.

Shortly thereafter, the suspect abandoned his vehicle, reported stolen out of Boston earlier in the day, on Cabot Road in Tewksbury, near the Wilmington line. The man then fled into the backyards and woods of South Tewksbury.

Wilmington Police turned to social media to alert residents of a search for the suspect in the areas of Aspen Drive and Flagstaff Road in Wilmington, and Fourth Street in Tewksbury, all within close vicinity of Cabot Road.

Police from Wilmington, Tewksbury and Billerica pursued the suspect, with assistance from at least three K9 units and the State Police’s Airwing.

Police would later spot the suspect in the woods in the area of Main Street, South Street and Salem Road in Tewksbury, relatively close to the Wilmington line.

Despite the best efforts of the police, the suspect — as of 1am on Wednesday morning — remains on the loose.

Wilmington Police asks residents to report any suspicious activity or persons fitting the suspect’s description immediately to the police.  Wilmington Police also thank residents for their assistance and patience during the search.
