OBITUARY: John “Jack” Tobin, 65

WILMINGTON, MA — John R. Tobin, “Jack”, age 65, of Wilmington, formerly of Chelsea, died peacefully on August 23, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jack was born on April 8, 1951, in Chelsea, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Robert and Helen (Roche) Tobin. Jack was raised and educated in Chelsea and a graduate of Chelsea High School.

Jack married his “best friend” Patricia Murphy on September 12, 1982; the couple moved to Wilmington in 1988 where they raised two wonderful children John and Nicole. Jack loved being a dad, he was very supportive of his children and enjoyed taking them to all of their sporting events.

For over 45 years Jack was employed as an Manager for the Commercial Union Insurance Company, which later became the One Beacon Insurance Company in Boston. Jack’s outgoing personality and work ethic made him quite successful throughout the years.

In his spare time, Jack enjoyed reading, watching sports, and utilizing his computer skills for friends and family.

Jack will be fondly remembered as a great guy, kind, funny, and very helpful towards others. He was known to be very family oriented and treasured every moment spent with his family and friends. Jack was well loved and will be greatly missed by all.

Jack was the beloved husband of Patricia (Murphy) Tobin, devoted father of John R. Tobin II of Wilmington and Nicole Andrea Tobin & her fiancé Ben Perrier of Ludlow, cherished son of the late Robert and Helen (Roche) Tobin, dear brother of Maureen Utera & husband Richard of Connecticut, Eileen Foley & husband Donald of New Hampshire, Margaret O’Reagan & husband Richard of Arizona, Elizabeth Roy of California, brother-in-law of Paul and Sandra Hafey of Billerica. Jack is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours on Monday, August 29th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01843.
