Wilmington POLICE LOG (Week of July 24, 2016)

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, July 24, 2016.

Sunday, July 24:

  • Operator and passenger of a gray 2006 Volvo SE S60 were observed asleep in the drive-thru at Simards on Main Street. Police responded and arrested Wesley Ayala (36, Tewksbury) for an OUI Liquor. (1:51am)
  • Police received a report of 10 youth walking down Shawsheen Avenue. Caller found it suspicious as his house was pranked last week.  Police responded and spoke with 5 youths. A parent responded and took custody of the youths. (3:05am)
  • Police came across 3 youths on Main Street and spoke with them.  They were heading to Cumberland Farms on their bikes and then heading home after. (3:39am)
  • K9 Ridic underwent some training at the Whitfield School on Middlesex Avenue. (8:38am)
  • A Main Street resident reported a large branch came down onto his property, currently over his fence and obstructing a sidewalk. Resident was concerned for pedestrians. Tree Department contacted Mass Highway. (9:47am)
  • A Faneuil Drive caller reported a possible larceny from and damage done to a neighbor’s home.  Police responded.  Home’s front porch was damaged and several bicycles were missing. Police were unable to reach the homeowner, but will followup. (4:04pm)
  • A caller’s son left a turquoise mountain bike at the high school on Friday, but the bike is no longer there.  Caller wanted it logged in case it was found. (4:45pm)
  • A Lowell Street resident reported a family of cats were living on his porch. He was worried his dog may harm them. Police gave them the numbers to the MSPCA and the Lowell Humane Society, and the Animal Control Officer will followup. (5:25pm)
  • Cheryl A. Reynolds (57, Wilmington) was issued a summons for the malicious destruction of property over $250.  A passerby reported Reynolds, in her black 2004 Ford Explorer, repeatedly drove into a fence on Swain Road. (6:45pm)
  • A passerby found a bicycle in Lubber’s Brook off of Brand Avenue, but was unable to remove it himself. Police notified DPW. (7:32pm)

Monday, July 25:

  • A  caller requested the Animal Control Officer to respond to a Quincy Street home over the possibility that someone is trapping groundhogs. Animal Control Office responded, but no one was home. (10:09am)  Officer followed up and advised the homeowner. (1:37pm)
  • A caller reported her son’s truck was hit by a delivery driver on Research Drive. (2:24pm)
  • New Hampshire State Police requested that the Wilmington Police stop and ID the operator of a vehicle that was involved in an indecent exposure act at the Hampton Tolls around 2:30pm. Man described as a white man, 40-50 years-old.  Police located the vehicle, spoke with the man in question, and advised him to contact the New Hampshire State Police. (3:19pm)
  • A tree fall on Salem Street. The road remained passable. Police notified DPW. (8:57pm)
  • A tree fell at Aldrich Road and Kendall Street, blocking a driveway. Police notified DPW. (9:58pm)
  • Wilmington Police assisted with the federal prisoner booking of Patrick Keogan (44 Wilmington).  Keogan was charged in connection with making threats on Facebook to burn down a Boston mosque and unlawfully possessing ammunition. (6:08am)
  • A Pouliot Place called to report her trash barrel was stolen yesterday. Police notified DPW. (7:28am)

Tuesday, July 26:

  • Police came across a company loading gravel onto the railbed on Grove Avenue. Company was advised they needed a detail to continue operating. Company ceased work and waited for a detail officer. (7:16am)
  • A gray 2013 Toyota Rav4 was rear-ended by a red 2002 Dodge Caravan at the stop light at Woburn Street and Lowell Street. No injuries reported. (8:41pm)
  • A caller reported she is dog sitting and the dog took off towards the woods on Lockwood Road. Animal Control Officer responded, but was unable to locate. (10:17am)
  • The hold-up alarm was accidentally triggered at People’s United Bank on Main Street. When police called to confirm emergency, the phone number on file went to a fax machine. Police sought out the correct number. (1:09pm)
  • A resident lost his Patriots lanyard with keys and bottle opener key chain near Bill Dube Hyundai. (1:28pm)
  • The (former) Bruins locker room alarm was accidentally trigged at Ristuccia Arena. (2:03pm)
  • A gray 2008 Hyundai Elantra broke down near Sonic on Main Street, causing a traffic hazard. Police were able to move the vehicle into the Sonic parking lot.  Operator was awaiting a AAA tow. (5:20pm)
  • An Elwood Road resident reported her neighbors witnessed an unknown man taking pictures of their house at approximately 4:30pm. When confronted, the man said the house was for sale, which is now true. Caller requested and officer speak with her and her neighbors. (6:22pm)
  • A Heather Drive resident reported a phone scam. (7:22pm)
  • Police noted graffiti on the metal box on the phone pole at Everett Avenue and Faulkner Avenue. Police notified Verizon to remove. (10:25pm)

Wednesday, July 27:

  • Police observed suspicious activity in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot on Middlesex Avenue. Situation checked OK. Individuals were playing Pokemon Go. (1:43am)
  • A resident reported fireworks were being lit off in the Alice Avenue area. Police responded. No one would come to the door and police observed the remnants of a fire pit. (3:32am)
  • Police assisted the Fire Department with a brush fire on Marjorie Road. Police spoke with an individual who stated a light colored pickup truck was seen in the cul de sac at 2:45pm lighting off a firework display. (4:57am)
  • Police installed safety seats in six vehicles throughout the morning and afternoon.
  • A Salem Street caller reported a driver of red pickup truck was possibly violating town bylaws by dumping illegally in the area. Police were unable to respond due to other pending calls. (11:32am)
  • A gray 2010 Honda Odyssey and a gray 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe were involved in a crash at Concord Street and Lopez Road. No injuries noted. Airbags deployed. Vehicles were towed. (1:19pm)
  • A Faulkner Avenue resident reported their white cat wen missing this morning. (6:01pm)
  • An Ashwood Avenue caller reported 2 males in a black van are on a construction site throwing items into the back of a van. Police responded. Van operators had permission from contractor to remove scraps. (6:18pm)
  • Police received report of a group of youths in the parking lot at The Learning Experience, near Sonic, breaking glass bottles and swearing at passing vehicles. Police responded and sent the children on their way. (6:34pm)

Thursday, July 28:

  • Animal Control Officer retrieved a lost parakeet from Benevento Sand & Stone on Salem Street. The bird’s photo was shared on social media. (8:30am)
  • Fire Department responded to a mulch fire on Sudbury Avenue. (11:35am)
  • A resident located an abandoned red bike on the trail behind Town Hall.  Police notified DPW to retrieve. (11:48am)
  • A tree on Glen Road was caught on an upper wire with a branch appearing cracked. Police notified RMLD. (2:54pm)
  • State Police handled a 2-vehicle crash on Route 93 North near Exit 40. Wilmington Fire transported one occupant with an injury to Lahey Clinic. (3:25pm)
  • A trash barrel was reported stolen from a Middlesex Avenue property. (3:53pm)
  • The Public Buildings Department called the Animal Control Officer over an “out-of-control” squirrel. (4:36pm)
  • Police received a report of  youths on the overpass on West Street throwing rocks onto 93. Police were unable to locate. (4:50pm)
  • A caller reported 3 males were playing basketball in the gazebo on the Town Common. Police responded and moved the parties along. (6:23pm)
  • Police spoke with a party driving a dirtbike in the roadway on Walnut Street. (6:28pm)
  • Police received a report of a possible homeless woman sitting on the floor of the ATM at Bank of America on Main Street. Police responded. Woman left the property and will be heading to the train station to leave Wilmington. (7:10pm)
  • A Glen Road resident reported a bicycle was abandoned in her yard sometime today. Police notified DPW. (7:31pm)
  • A Lockwood Road caller reported two people were walking around a house with flashlights. Police responded. The two individuals were from a dog watch program and were assisting a resident on Lockwood Road with trying to find her missing dog.  Volunteers will be in the neighborhood throughout the night. (10:20pm)
  • A Roosevelt Road resident reported a man was behind his house slashing tires. When the resident started to chase the man over to Taft Road, the man pulled a knife on the resident and told him to leave.  Police responded and arrested Joshua Aaron Himmel (26, Billerica) for assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property over $250. (10:54pm)

Friday, July 29:

  • Fire Department responded to power lines down in a backyard on Emerson Street. (10:22am)
  • K9 Ridic was a part of a demonstration for the Little Junior Police Academy. (12:13pm)
  • An unspecified Ballardvale Street business reported that a vehicle drove through its parking lot and spilled paint throughout and left the paint can in the dumpster. Manager will check security footage. (12:39pm)
  • Police responded to a disturbance at Avalon Oaks West on Evergreen Drive. A resident of the complex caused a loud disturbance in the main office after being served with a civil eviction notice. Police restored the peace. (12:56pm)
  • A gray 2011 Honda Pilot and a blue 2016 Toyota Sienna were involved in a crash on Main Street. No injuries reported. (3:37pm)
  • A Corey Avenue caller reported she found 4 kittens in her backyard. Animal Control Officer was notified and will follow up. (8:23pm)
  • Timothy J. Palladino (35, North Reading) was arrested on two outstanding warrant. Police checked on Palladino when they noticed he was sleeping in his vehicle in the Target parking lot. (8:38pm)
  • A caller reported a children’s bike was smashed in the middle of the road on Faulkner Avenue. Caller saw three kids in the area when she noticed the bike. (10:19pm)
  • Police received notification from Market Basket’s security company that an alarm was just triggered inside the store. Police received a call from an employee who stated they were accidentally locked inside the store. Employee was able to leave the store, but the alarm is still sounding. Night manager responded to shut alarm off. (10:21pm)

Saturday, July 30:

  • Evan Guy Wattles (28, Tewksbury) was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. (11:05am)
  • A caller reported a dog was left in a vehicle with its windows barely down in the parking lot of Target.  Vehicle’s operator returned to his vehicle and drove off before police arrived. (11:45am)
  • An anonymous caller reported the Kilby Street street sign has been stolen. (12:08pm)
  • An individual dropped of several rounds of ammunition of various calibers in a green bag for destruction at the Public Safety Building. (2:55pm)
  • Jeffrey Keo (30, Lowell) was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. (3:25pm)
  • A Chili’s employee requested a well-being check for a female customer who seemed unsteady after one glass of wine.  Customer laid on the bench outside and then sat between two cars in the parking lot.  Woman was gone by the time the police arrived. (5:24pm)  Police returned and found the woman still located in the lot.  They placed her in protective custody. (5:39pm)
  • A motorcycle struck a parked car on Arlene Avenue.  Fire Department transported motorcyclist to the hospital. (5:36pm)
  • Fire Department responded to a brush fire near Elia’s parking lot. A passerby extinguished the fire prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. (6:11pm)
  • A caller reported several cars were doing burnouts in the roadway on Woburn Street. (7:32pm)
  • A caller reported an excessively loud party on Second Avenue. Police responded and advised the homeowners to keep the noise down. (10:30pm)
