End of Summer Bash, Thursday, August 11, 5 pm-7:30 pm
Swain Green (across from Town Commn)
Join us on the Swain Green for the End of Summer Bash! Amigos Locos Tex-Mex and Firebox BBQ food trucks will have a yummy selection of items and the Cool Cow Ice Cream truck will have 40 different novelty ice creams to purchase. Thanks to the Friends of the WML, Summer Reading participants will receive a coupon for a free ice cream. Stop by the Youth Services Department to pick up your coupon. .Without coupon, ice cream is $3. Quentin Callewaert Trio will be on hand to play a broad range of music, including the Beatles, Chuck Berry, Stray Cats, Allman Brothers, and Ray Charles. Casper the Spectacular will entertain you with his juggling and balloon twist balloons! Thanks to Wilmington Rotary for funding Casper! In addition, there will be face painting and games for kids to play. Please remember to bring your own seating to this event.

S.T.A.R. Interview Technique *RR

Learn to draft effective interview responses using the S.T.A.R. technique- a concise description of the Situation, Tasks Required, Action Taken, and the Results of your actions, which is used to present information in “story-form/” Stories are effective ways to communicate information about your experience and skills that interviewers remember better than off-the-cuff responses. Presented by Barbara Alevras, owner of Sage Consulting Services.

If you love to write and seek feedback, then join our writing group. Please bring up to five pages of written work to the meeting. Open to all genres and levels. Symbotic, located in Wilmington, is a company that has uses robotics and an integrated software system to improve the efficiency of distribution centers. Join this session presented by Rob Sullivan, Chief Development Officer and Co-Founder to learn more about the use of robots do to overcome technical challenges within the supply chain.

Local authors Diann Sespico, author of Nicol’s Way; Jean Trounstine, author of six books including her latest A Boy with a Knife; cookbook author Ana Patuleia Ortins whose most recent book is Authentic Portuguese Cooking; Mark Fins author of Imagine That; Michael Monuteaux, who writes under the pseudonym Carl Monuto is the author of the apocalyptic thriller, The Black Halo and other works; and Mark Ryan author of sci-fi e-books featuring the Romeo Gang will be discussing their books and publishing experience. This is a great opportunity to support local authors and learn about new books.

This storytime for preschoolers includes books, rhymes, music and a fun craft. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to accompany the child and participate in the activities. Space is limited. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Ages 3-6

Watch the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio at the library! Snacks provided. Grades 6-12.
Books to Action *RR
Wednesday, August 10, 3 pm
Read a book in which the character faces a challenge such as poverty, homelessness, or foster care. Then, come to discuss the book and bring donations of books for More Than Words. This nonprofit organization empowers youth who are in foster care, court-involved, homeless or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a book store. Choose from either How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O’Connor, Paper Things by Jennifer Richard Jacobson, or Fast Break by Mike Lupica. Bring donations of books that are in good condition. Grades 4-8
Baby Times

This program of songs, rhymes, games and picture books is for babies under the age of two years and their caregivers. Space is limited. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis
Time for Twos

This fun program is for two year-olds and features books, songs, rhymes, music and movement. Space is limited. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Library News
Food for Fines in August
In lieu of fines, the library will accept on-perishable items for the Wilmington Food Pantry as payment during the month of August. In support of this effort, we ask that the items brought be comparable in cost to the fines owed. For a list of items needed by the Food Pantry, check the Community Fund website at www.commfund.org/food-pantry.html.
