Wilmington POLICE LOG (Week of July 17, 2016)

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, July 17, 2016.

Sunday, July 17:

  • Police noticed six individuals were in the Town Hall parking lot. Situation checked OK. Individuals were playing Pokemon Go and sent on their way. (12:39am)
  • Police responded to report of an intoxicated person at the Shell Gas Station. Individual took an Uber home. (2:59am)
  • A Chestnut Street resident found their mailbox in the street. (3:02am)
  • A blue 2008 Chevy Silverado and a gray 2011 Honda Pilot struck a deer and killed a deer on Lowell Street. Minor damage to the Silverado. No injuries to drivers. (7:56am)
  • A large amount of glass was found in the roadway of Cunningham Street at Allston Avenue, causing a hazard. Police contacted DPW. (9:03am)
  • A Marion Street caller reported his mailbox was damaged overnight. (10:17am)
  • A Crystal Road caller reported three juveniles were ringing doorbells. One may have knocked off a mailbox. Police responded. All mailboxes appeared intact. (8:39pm)
  • A Kilmarnock Street resident reported his house was tomatoed. (10:51pm)
  • A Burger King employee reported a man entered the restaurant after closing and refused to leave. Man left while employee was on the phone with the police. (11:01pm)

Monday, July 18:

  • Police noted the protection pad for the basketball net at the Shawsheen School was removed and lodged under one of the ramps in the skate park. (12:57am)
  • A Lowell Street caller reported that when his son came home from work, he encountered a group of 5-6 teens in his yard. Police responded and found the teens in the woods on Birch Road.  Teens were having a sleepover. Police contacted the host parents. (2:15am)
  • Police came across an unattended bonfire on Boutwell Street. Police put it out. (3:27am)
  • A caller reported cats were living under the deck of a house on Lee Avenue. The Animal Control Officer responded and found no cats.  Officer noted it did appear someone may have been feeding cats.  He will followup with the homeowner. (11:12am)
  • Water Department send a warning to a Boutwell Street resident breaking the town’s water ban after receiving a complaint from another resident. (1:08pm)
  • A Chestnut Street resident recovered an injured bird and placed it a shoebox for the Animal Control Officer to bring to a vet. (1:11pm)
  • A tractor trailer unit struck a tree on Middlesex Avenue. (1:39pm)
  • Patrick B. McCarthy (43, Merrimac) was issued a summons for violating a abuse prevention order. (4:09pm)
  • A Grove Avenue resident reported they were a victim of identity theft. (8:36pm)
  • A Mill Road caller reported their mailbox was knocked off its post sometime this afternoon. (9:08pm)
  • John Kelley (58, Wilmington) was arrested for OUI Liquor (4th Offense); resisting arrest; failure to stop for police; passing violation; speeding; leave scene of property damage; marked lanes violation; and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Kelley’s blue 2000 Chevy Silverado was pulled over on Middlesex Avenue. Kelley took off on foot, but was tracked down by the department’s K9. (9:28pm)

Tuesday, July 19:

  • Gerald Ahern (Wilmington, 48) was arrested for an OUI (Drugs); Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle; and Warrants. Ahern was arrested in the Burger King parking lot after an employee called 911 when he noticed a male in a red 2009 Toyota Tacoma not moving. (12:44am)
  • Police noticed a suspicious person at Grace Chapel on West Street.  Individual was playing Pokemon Go.  Police sent him on his way. (1:44am)
  • A Serenoa Lane caller reported 2.5 hours ago, his wife heard the garage door open. She checked the area and did see anyone.  The caller then arrived home and also checked the house.  He found a second door open that is usually locked. Police responded and situation checked OK. (10:22am)
  • K9 Ridic underwent training at the Boutwell Early Childhood Center. (1:27pm)
  • Animal Control Officer responded to the Town Dog Park to investigate a dog bite. Officer subsequently issued a 10-day order of quarantine to a dog. (2:15pm)
  • An employee at As Good As It Gets reported her iPhone 6 was stolen from her waitress stand sometime between 11am and 1pm. (2:58pm)
  • A black 2012 Toyota Prius and a white 2006 Volkswaggen Jetta were involved in a crash in the Heavenly Donuts parking lot. (3:48pm)
  • Manta Salguero-Aguilar (36, Billerica) was issued a summons for Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failure To Stop/Yield. (5:48pm)
  • A walk-in party reported his bike was taken from outside Panera Bread at Wilmington Plaza. (9:48pm)

Wednesday, July 20:

  • Police investigated a possible bonfire at Town Beach. Situation checked OK.  An individual was using a candle as light for drawing. (12:44am)
  • Police received burglar alarm alert from the Bruins locker room.  Situation checked OK. Alarm was accidentally set off by a trainer. (7:42am)
  • Michael R. Busook (24, Wilmington) was arrested for Violating An Abuse Prevention Order; Being A Fugitive From Justice On A Court Warrant; and Other Warrants. (9:20am)
  • A Taft Road caller found an expensive Breakpoint bicycle leaning on the fence at the back of his property.  Police notified DPW to pick up. (10:01am)
  • Police noticed a Market Basket carriage located in front of a Clark Street home. Police contacted Market Basket, who will send an employee to retrieve. (10:17am)
  • A Waltham Street caller reported keys were stolen from his business vehicles on the night of July 18. (12:26pm)
  • Police responded to a dispute between neighbors on Ogunquit Road over dumping grass clippings in conservation land. (6:34pm)
  • A Salem Street caller reported he was arguing with a telemarketer and was threatened. He wanted the incident logged. (7:37pm)
  • A gray 2011 Toyota Camry and a gray 2006 Toyota Sienna were involved in a crash at Church Street and Middlesex Avenue.  Both vehicles towed. No injuries noted. (8:51pm)
  • Police received a noise complaint over a drone flying in the area of Dunton Avenue. Police spoke with drone’s owner, who agreed to cease for the evening. (10:34pm)

Thursday, July 21:

  • Police confiscated a small amount of marijuana, pipe and grinder during a traffic stop at Main Street and Harvard avenue. (12:54am)
  • Animal Control Officer responded to a bat in a home on Beeching Avenue. Officer retrieved the bat and brought it to Best Pets in Tewksbury and then a lab in Boston. Homeowner’s cat received a 6-month quarantine. (8:13am)
  • A Wildwood Street resident reported a possible injured bobcat in their yard. Animal Control Officer responded, but was unable to locate the animal. (12:47pm)
  • A caller reported an older man approached her and offered her a ride. She declined, but man “would not let the situation go.” Man was last seen in his blue 2004 Chevy Silverado heading towards the Town Center. Wilmington Police located vehicle in parking lot of Route 62 Plaza in Burlington. Burlington Police responded. Police had a conservation with the man and advised him. (1:46pm)
  • A Grove Avenue caller reported a car dropped off a young man with two large trash bags. Man walked down the access road and later emerged without the bags.  Police responded and retrieved the buried bags — which contained laptops and other electronics. Police contacted the Tewksbury Police with a description of the car and the males in question. (3:18pm)
  • Animal Control Officer assisted a resident with removing a mouse from her car. (4:12pm)
  • A lifeguard at Town Beach reported an approximately 40 year-old woman appears to be consuming alcohol from her purse. Police responded. Woman arranged to get herself and her child picked up.  Her vehicle was allowed to remain in the lot. (4:57pm)
  • Police checked on a car pulled over on Concord Street with its hazards on.  It was just an Uber driver who was lost.  Police gave him directions. (6:26pm)
  • A Park Street resident reported he lost his cell phone around 9am this morning when he left on the roof of his car. (6:38pm)
  • A large crane drove by Cochrane Road and pulled down some wires. Police notified Comcast and power company. (9:14pm)
  • Ethan David Cook (20, Wilmington) was arrested for an OUI (Liquor), Possessing Liquor As A Person Under 21; and Having A False Liquor ID Card/License. Cook was involved in an accident on Jaques Lane. No injuries reported. (11:35pm)

Friday, July 22:

  • Fire Department responded to a smoking mulch on Horseshoe Lane. (5:14am)
  • A Lockwood Road caller reported a mail carrier struck her vehicle. Police assisted with paperwork exchange. (10:02am)
  • Animal Control Officer freed a raccoon in the dumpster behind the Wilmington Senior Center. (10:11am)
  • A green 2001 Toyota Tacoma struck a pole on Parker Street. No injuries noted. Vehicle towed. Crash caused power outage in the area. RMLD was notified. (10:32am)
  • An Allenhurst Way caller reported his neighbor has had a refrigerator outside for approximately 3 weeks with the door unsecured. Police spoke with homeowner, who will move the refrigerator inside later in the day. (10:43am)
  • Tewksbury Police requested a mutual aid assist to block Lake Street in Tewksbury due to a tree in the road. (1:44pm)
  • Animal Control Officer reported a man was on a dirt bike riding in the fields behind Town Hall. Police were unable to locate. (3:10pm)
  • Maria E. Cintron (48, Woburn) was arrested on an OUI (Liquor); Speeding in Violation of a Special Regulation; Negligent Operation Of A Motor Vehicle; Marked Lanes Violation; Failure To Stop/Yield; and Failure To Wear Seat Belt. (3:24pm)
  • A caller reported she witnessed three females approached by a blue 2013 Toyota Corolla on Grove Avenue.  The male driver asked the females if they needed a ride and pushed the vehicle.  Females were attempting to get into the vehicle when concerned citizens on scene stopped them.  The vehicle took off down towards Route 38.  Police responded and spoke to the father of the Corolla driver. (7:19pm)
  • State Police called to report a wrong way driver was on 93 South, coming from the Route 133 area. The vehicle was described as a silver Honda. Police later called to report they had stopped the vehicle. (11:49pm)

Saturday, July 23:

  • Police noticed a car parked in the high school’s student parking lot. Situation checked OK. Parties were playing Pokemon. (12:35am)
  • A black 2006 Ford F31 struck a pole and caused some property damage to a Middlesex Avenue property near the Wilmington Congregational Church. Police issued a citation for marked lanes violation, speed, and use of electronics. (2:57am)
  • Police investigated suspicious activity at Grace Chapel. Situation checked OK. Individuals were playing Pokemon Go. (2:59am)
  • Police confiscated a small amount of a Class D substance during a traffic stop (for failure to use headlines) on Main Street. (3:40am)
  • A black 2008 Honda Accord and a mail truck were involved in a crash on Salem Street. One driver was transported to the hospital. One vehicle was towed. (1:07pm)
  • A resident reported the Cambridge Street street sign had been vandalized. (2:43pm)
  • A caller reported the U.S. Flag came off the flagpole at Cummings Properties on Concrd Street and was laying on the ground. Police recovered the flag.  The flag’s rope had snapped. Police contacted Cummings. (4:34pm)
  • A lifeguard requested a police check of the beach after people in line were getting angry as the beach was at capacity. (4:47pm)
  • A Burlington Avenue resident reported his mailbox was vandalized. (6:47pm)
  • Trees and limbs were reported down on Wirth Avenue, Phillips Avenue, Coral Street, Canal Street, King Street, Veranda Avenue, and Cottonwood Circle (7:10pm-7:45pm).
  • Wires were reported down on Gloria Way, Coral Street, and Bay Street. (7:52pm-8:46pm)
  • Police received a report of 4-8 individuals setting off fireworks in the field at the North Intermediate School on Main Street.  Individuals were gone by the time police arrived. (9:21pm)
  • A caller reported a lot of fireworks were coming from the end of Blanchard Road. Police advised the parties to cease. (11:00pm)
  • Fire Department transported an intoxicated man making self-threatening statements. (11:28pm)
  • North Reading Police stated they were flagged down by someone who saw a white man getting out of a light blue Volvo trying to get a white female off the ground and into the vehicle on Salem Street. Police were unable to locate. (11:50pm)
