Adult Events

Cookin’ the Books *RR
Tuesday, August 2, noon
Featured Cookbook: Plenty by Yotam Ottolenghi
If you love to cook and enjoy talking about food and sharing recipes then this book group is for you. Please stop by the library to pick up a copy of Plenty (or find a recipe from the book online), select a recipe, and then email your recipe selection to book club leader Lisa Crispin (lcrispin@mvlc.org). Bring your dish to the meeting, enjoy sampling everyone’s dishes, and enjoy the company.

Author Talk: Michelle Hoover *RR
Thursday, August 4, 7 pm
Michelle Hoover is the Fannie Hurst Writer-in-Residence at Brandeis University and teaches at GrubStreet, where she leads the Novel Incubator program. She is a 2014 NEA Fellow and has been a Writer-in-Residence at Bucknell University, a MacDowell Fellow, and a winner of the PEN/New England Discovery Award. Her debut, The Quickening, was a 2010 Massachusetts Book Award “Must Read” and her most recent novel is Bottomland.

Apple’s media streaming device allows you to watch blockbuster movies, hit TV shows, live sports, news, your family photos or listen to music. Come see it in action.

S.T.A.R. Interview Technique *RR
Monday, August 8, 10 am
Learn to draft effective interview responses using the S.T.A.R. technique- a concise description of the Situation, Tasks Required, Action Taken, and the Results of your actions, which is used to present information in “story-form/” Stories are effective ways to communicate information about your experience and skills that interviewers remember better than off-the-cuff responses. Presented by Barbara Alevras, owner of Sage Consulting Services.

Writing Group *RR
Monday, August 8, 7 pm
If you love to write and want feedback, then join our writing group. Please bring up to five pages of written work to the meeting. Open to all genres and levels. When registering, please provide your email address so you can receive an agenda and any prep materials in advance. Led by local writing enthusiast, Barbara Alevras.

Music and More with Bernadette Baird *RR
Monday, August 1, 6:30 pm
Bernadette Baird presents music and movement for toddlers and young children through age three. Sing, play musical instruments, and dance. Ages infant-4 years.

Preschool Storytime: Camping
Tuesday, August 2, 10 am
This storytime for preschoolers includes books, rhymes, music and a fun craft. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to accompany the child and participate in the activities.
Space is limited. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Ages 3-6

On Your Mark, Get Set: Read, Move, Laugh, and Play! *RR
Wednesday, August 3, 6:30 pm
Using mime, comedy, and interactive playfulness, comic mime Robert Rivest shares fun ways to move, laugh and relieve stress. In addition to his hilarious mime stories, everyone will learn cool mime movements, awesome laughter exercises, and calming mindfulness activities. Ages 4+

Baby Times
Thursday, August 4, 9:30 am
This program of songs, rhymes, games and picture books is for babies under the age of two years and their caregivers.
Space is limited. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Time for Twos
Thursday, August 4, 10:30 am
This fun program is for two year-olds and features books, songs, rhymes, music and movement. Space is limited. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fitness Friday: Active Games
Friday, August 5
Ages 3-6: 9:30 am
Grades 1-3: 11 am
Grades 4-8: 1 pm
We will play lots of games that get kids moving!

Lindsay and Her Puppet Pals *RR
Monday, August 8, 6:30 pm
Join Lindsay and her lovingly crafted, larger-than-life Puppet Pals for a family fun show filled with silliness, crowd participation, and unique, memorable characters. This series of charming and positive short stories will delight the young and the young at heart! All ages.
