LIMERICK, ME — John Mullin, 47, of Wilmington, was struck and killed while walking on a sidewalk in Limerick, Maine on Monday, July 4. Mullin was on vacation with his family at the time.
Witnesses reported that Mullin was walking on the sidewalk in the area of Dollar General on Washington Street (Route 11) and a vehicle went up onto the sidewalk before striking Mullin. After receiving information from witnesses, deputies commenced a search of the area.
While searching for the suspect vehicle, William George, 41, of Sandford, ME, arrived to the scene on foot and admitted he struck the pedestrian and left the scene. George was taken into custody at that time.
On Wednesday, July 20, at approximately 9pm, George was formally arrested pursuant to a warrant charging him with operating a motor vehicle after suspension and an accident with death.
Officials note that the investigation is continuing with additional charges anticipated.
George is being held on $1,000 cash bail and will make his first court appearance on Friday, July 22.
