New Restaurant To Open In Wilmington

WILMINGTON, MA — A new restaurant will be opening soon in Wilmington.  And it will have something no other restaurant in Wilmington currently has – a salad and soup bar.

LaRosa’s is relocating from Billerica (326 Salem Street) to Wilmington (269 Main Street, Unit 211) in the Wilmington Crossing plaza, next to The Cleaner Spot, in the old Pink Melon location.  The restaurant will primarily be a take-out venue, with a limited number of indoor seats.

“We’re excited to move into Wilmington, where we look forward to becoming a part of the community,” writes owner Jason Evans in a press release to Wilmington Apple.  “We’ll have the ability to offer lots of healthy options, hearty options, and something for everyone.  We’ll be utilizing the concepts I learned at culinary school, while attaining my degree as a chef, along with recipes I’ve created through the years.”

According to Evans, the restaurant will feature a soup and salad bar with homemade dressings, plus roasted turkey and beef, perfect for sandwiches.  Evans promises to continue to serve his popular meatballs and chicken parmesan, which have been a hit up the street in Billerica, where LaRosa’s has been located for the past year.  Evans boasts a ‘scratch kitchen,’ making his meals from scratch.

In addition to placing takeout orders, customers can stop in and grab a meal from the refrigerator section, or prepare a salad to their liking, using locally available ingredients.

The restaurant also plans on carrying Wowo’s Goodies products, including whoopee pies and carrot cake.  Wowo’s Goodies, run by Evans’s family in Wilmington, was once a staple of the Wilmington Farmers Market.

Wilmington Selectmen unanimously approved the restaurant’s request for a common victualer license at Monday night’s Board meeting.  The application was found to be in order after receiving positive recommendations from all the applicable town departments.

Former Wilmington Selectman Mike Newhouse, who was representing the restaurant’s owners, noted that the Evans family has been in the food business since 1970 and has operated successful sandwich and catering businesses out of multiple locations.

“They’re looking forward to making Wilmington their new home,” said Newhouse.

“I’m a big Italian sub guy,” said Selectman Greg Bendel, with a smile.  “I’m looking forward to a sampling. I wish [the Evans family] the best of luck.”

“I’m delighted that you’re coming into Wilmington,” Selectman Mike Champoux told the Evans family.  “I hope it’s a successful and lucrative spot for you.”

The Evans family is aiming for a September 1st opening.

(NOTE: For the record… Selectman Mike McCoy was absent from the meeting.  Selectwoman Judy O’Connell chose to recuse herself from the discussion and vote.)
