ALERT: Reading Police Investigating Reports of Suspicious Car Approaching Kids

READING, MA — Chief Mark D. Segalla reports that the Reading Police Department is seeking information on a driver who allegedly followed and attempted to have a conversation with young girls twice this week.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, officers responded to reports of a vehicle following a group of 12-year-old girls down Van Norden Road. The driver of the vehicle allegedly stopped abruptly and attempted to talk to them.

The vehicle is described as a small white car, low to the ground, with tinted windows. At the time of the incident, the driver was playing loud music and was driving with the car’s lights off.

The following day, an incident similar in nature and description was reported to the Reading Police Department. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, a 12-year-old female student was approached by a male in a small white vehicle on Forest Street near Reading Memorial High School.

The driver asked the girl if she wanted a ride home and drove away once she said “no.” The girl described the driver as a white or Hispanic male approximately 35 years old with dark hair and a beard.

Anyone with information regarding either incident is asked to contact the Reading Police Department at 781-944-1212.
